Impression:
My God. MY GOD. MY GOD! This was the best episode of all time… I’ve fallen in love with anime all over again. Episode 12 contained a potent mixture of drama and romance, a combination so deadly that I was almost reduced to tears and then at the same time to unbearable amounts of joy… I think I’m just going to put it out there, this is, by far, (in my opinion anyway) the best anime to come out of the Spring 2013 Anime Season… take that as you will. And now it’s over, a void has been left in my heart and a deep and unwavering yearning for a second season has accumulated within my soul… THERE BETTER BE A SECOND SEASON! RAWR!
Allow me to get this out of the way before we delve deeper into this episode… BABY TSUKIKO IS SO FREAKING CUTE! They way she speaks, the ways she looks, the way she moves… My God, I can’t take it. You know what I find sadder than morose drama? Morose drama in which a cute girl cries… I’m with you on this one Youto, I don’t like to see a girl cry… especially not Tsukiko. It was a nice contrast to see the younger Tsukiko alongside the older and expressionless Tsukiko. It reminds us that A. Tsukiko isn’t the adorable/’passionate’ bundle of joy that she once was and B. Tsukiko is an amazing character. At first I didn’t like her. 12 episodes later and an amazing character has been developed and depicted… I think this is one of the many reasons why light novel to anime adaptions tend to be my favorites, they have the best characterizations and, in my opinion, light novels manage to tell a better story then manga… just saying.
Poor, poor Youto. I realized after five minutes of the episode what Youto would do and why he would lose his memories in the future… f***, tears were literally coming to my eyes as I watched this kid, the boy of not even 10 years old, cursing himself for the sake of others. His best friend and mother figure Tsukasa is going to die, the last three years of there time together and the rest of his memories… he renounced them all so that the Tsutsukakushi sisters could have at least some memories with their mother… what a lad. It broke my heart to watch him lose Tsukasa, it broke my heart to watch older Youto learn about the truth, realizing that he’ll (for the foreseeable future) never remember anything or anyone if they become a ‘memory’… last episode I was shipping Youto x Asuza… this episode proved that Youto x Tsukiko is the only way to go! They’ve been through so much together already… Poor, poor Youto. You’ve gained my respect, dearest Pervert Prince.
So Tsukasa lived… I presume she died shortly after the above scene? I don’t necessarily mean like an hour later, but I’m thinking like a couple weeks later? That aside, I’m glad that Youto and the Tsutsukakushi sisters were able to share this moment. It warmed my heart, y’know? Okasan!
Speaking of Youto x Tsukiko… romance. This episode was full of it. This show if once of my favorites because the romance has been consistent throughout, none of that ‘slice of life until the last episode when the main character hold hands and gaze off into the sunset’ bullshit, nope, HenNeko gives us TWO kisses in one season and an abundance of flirting and sexually enticing material… oh! And romance… pure and unadulterated romance… tis a beautiful thing, is it not? I’m glad the Tsukiko ‘won’ (not that it would have turned out any other way) and, if there is a second season, I hope the continue to develop their relationship.
And finally, the ending. Everyone goes to the theme park and has a great time. It was a nice way to end it, a safe way, no cliffhangers, no ambiguity and a lot of fun. There are of course more novels and more source material means a feasible second season. There ares still the issues of Youto’s lost memories and Tsukiko’s lost expression to deal with and that alone indicates that there will be a second season… Please have a second season. I beg you. Oh! And another thing, Asuki Asuza. I liked how they brought up ‘the kiss’ again, not directly referencing it (per say), but still throwing it in there a nice reminder and little bit of fan service.
Episode 12 is, by far, the best episode. Romance, comedy, drama and a feasible plot; these are the things we were looking for in the ‘perfect’ HenNeko episode. People (myself included) are always complaining that HenNeko’s plot is convoluted… well I’m pretty sure that episode 12 explained everything perfectly for you and allowed for you too understand. We now have a greater understanding of the cat God’s, Youto’s predicament and the Tsutsukakushi sister’s confusion… yeah, I think all of the plot holes have been filled… and it’s a good thing too!
Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko is my favorite show this season and I’m actually quite dismayed at the thought of it ending. It’s one of the best romantic comedies out there and it’s ending is probably one of the most fulfilling (for a first season comprised to 12 episodes anyway). Watch it. If you reading this you’ve probably already watched it. I don’t care. Watch it again. I know I plan too. It was just that darn good.
I’ve been reading your blogs of this show, and i fully agree, this episode answered alot of my questions! I’m really hoping for another season though… i cant get enough of this anime!
Firstly, thank you for reading my posts! Haha, and secondly, I feel the same way. This was an amazing anime and it truly deserves a second season… we need more Youto x Tsukiko feels!
