‘Azuki Azusa is spinning around in my head’
Summary: After failing to get Azusa to talk to him, Yōto confronts her former classmates over what happened. They had apparently teased her at her old school due to skipping it a lot, telling her their class was going on a field trip somewhere when they were actually going elsewhere, which led to her becoming distrustful of others. After hearing this, Yōto takes Azusa to the stony cat, telling her about his facade that she acquired and stating his sincere wish to become her true friend. After coming to understand his feelings, Azusa wishes on the stony cat, returning her facade to Yōto. Meanwhile, Tsukiko remembers a time when Yōto once gave her advice on how to get along with children. After showing Yōto a story presentation based on this encounter, which doesn’t ring a bell for him, Tsukiko explains that she doesn’t get along with Tsukushi and she believes she hates her.
So this episode is in two parts, the Azuki half and the Tsukiko half. Both halves are good and I’m really starting to quite like this anime. The presence of character development is awesome and the flash backs are well placed and awesome. Yes, the key word here is awesome. In some ways I’m glad that Youto has finally gotten his facade back, I mean, I’m not sure how long they could have dragged out that gimmick before it became boring, but I’ll miss his face frontal perversion. Let’s be honest though, he’s still pretty much the same guy with his ‘facade’ as he was without… it’s just that there’s less likely to be more greasy lip comments… greasy lips… I’m not sure whether that’s disgusting or arousing… thoughts?
So let’s talk about the Azuki half first because… well it came first in the episode. So last episode we all know that Azuki got the wrong idea about Youto’s disappearance (and Youto’s motives) and she became depressed. Episode 3 begins with Youto going to see the now depressed Azuki in an attempt to make her feel better. He fails. In the end she tells him she hates him and that she never wants to see him again. I failed to mention this last episode, but this isn’t the first time we’ve seen a character act in this way. Mio Aoyama (from The World God Only Knows) is kind of the same character… feigned popularity and a pretentious attitude… yeah, they’re pretty much the same character. But I digress, I really enjoyed the first half of this episode. Not only do we get to find out why Azuki is so depressed bu the situation, but we also get to find out more about her past. I’m just saying, I really don’t like those (presumably) fake tanned girls. Even in real life I hate girls like that (and believe me, England is riddled with them) and to see them bullying someone for NO REASON at all is just plain infuriating. I’ll admit, I didn’t like Azuki at first, but now that we’ve seen this new side to her character I really do like her. She’s cute and innocent, not at all similar to the way she first introduced herself. And the fact that she’s now given Youto his facade back means that we’re going to get to see more of the real Azuki! Yeah! And one more thing before I move on… Youto technically kidnapped Azuki and her mum did nothing to stop him… just saying…
