Impression:
Can we all take a moment to once more appreciate Komano’s freakishly accurate notes and predictions!?
AHHHHHHHH DAMNIT DAMNIT DAMNIT! THEY DRAGGED IT ON SO THEY WOULDN’T START THE MATCH THIS WEEK. FAAAAAAAACCCCCCKKKKKK!
Just aksjdlaskjd I am so happy that Shinobu decided to follow Arata’s request of watching the Team Matches. I think she is in for a fun one, especially for Chihaya’s match against Rion. I think this will definitely catch her attention since Chihaya was the one who she went to hunt down her name because she left such a big impression on her. If Chihaya were to lose, I am sure Shinobu will be quite disappointed.
Rion is instantly a major threat. She is fresh, her freaking grandmother (who is Kanade’s aspiration) is the reader for this match. We are told that Rion has been stuck in the B Class, but let’s not underestimate her since it all comes down to luck if you are equally matched.
Worst of all, Chihaya is facing a major disadvantage because the majority of cards that have been laid out are three-syllables, and there are only a few one-syllables and ‘her’ card Impassionate is unfortunately not one of them. However not having ‘her’ card on the field can be spun around as an advantage where as she won’t be distracted by it. Chihaya tends to lose her focus or momentum when she fails to claim that particular card. This will be the match where Chihaya will be countering her weaknesses, and will have to figure out how to overcome them so that she can win.
Taichi have been able to do extremely well thanks to not being distracted by failing to reach Arata’s level. However suddenly he started getting Arata-Feels and his mind started to wander to him. It didn’t help that his opponent Eromu just stabbed him in the gut, sneering about how he is still in the B Class (You have no idea how much I want to punch this guy for not only saying that, but also being obsessed with Kanade’s boobs). I would LOVE it if Taichi were able to defeat Eromu because he is taking this challenge head on against Fujisaki’s Captain.
Speaking of match-ups, everyone (except for Komano) has been paired up with an opponent that is remarkably similar to them be it physical appearance, a strong resolve or their role. This will definitely be an interesting and intense match that will- varying on how evenly matched up they are with their opponents will probably carry on through at least three episodes. I think Komano might have a bit of advantage since his opponent is really distracted right now with his teammate’s claim saying that he is probably in love with Rion. It is amusing to see Komano play against the Yamai Makoto who given him information, but he is an A Class player (right?), so Komano will have a tough match.
Poor Kanade. ;A; It wasn’t stamina that was the problem, she had jammed her finger (AND WON AT THAT- LET ME LOVE YOUUUU!) and it is seriously swelling now, the Empress says that she probably had sprained it. It was so emotional to see that Kanade was relieved that it was only her who got injured because they can’t afford Chihaya, their ace to have an injury. Only she was absolutely devastated when she found out that Yamashiro Kyoko was their reader and wished that she was still playing.
Also I want to slap that idiotic supervisor for mixing up the Tokyo Teams and telling Hokuo that Arata was cheering for them. At least Retro did justice and told Arata himself. Bless you Retro.
Finally, god- ARATA. DAMNIT. YOU WERE SO CLOSE. SO CLOSE. THE MOMENT WAS SO PRECIOUS, IT WAS LIKE THAT SLOW-MO VICTORY SONG (WHAT IS IT CALLED AGAIN- LAA-LALALA, LA. LA, LALALA LA! What a horrible interpretations…) AND I WAS JUST CHEERING AND JUMPED FROM MY SEAT AND THEN DRAMATIC STOP, AN INCREDIBLE RELF-RESTRAINT FOR THE SAKE OF PLAYING IN THE INDIVIDUAL MATCHES THE NEXT DAY. /SOBS I have to hand it to you Arata, that’s some willpower you have there.
Tsubaka, well I could care less about him to be honest. He is the only character that hasn’t grown on me the slightest, so I am hoping to see him redeem himself (regardless the fact he will probably lose) in this match.
IS IT NEXT FRIDAY YET?!

I laughed so hard and felt so sorry for Arata when he was shown on the floor just out of reach from the door. Poor guy, you gotta admire his self-restraint but he just can’t catch a break :’)
I don’t think Chihaya is likely to lose against Rion. If she wins, it’ll balance out her previous loss but if that happens it’s likely Mizusawa will lose as a team, just because this show enjoys tearing away your expectations and freaking the hell out of you. Although now that I think about it this scenario is possible given how relaxed the opposing team is. It won’t be an easy match, but my money’s on Mizusawa losing so Taichi & Chihaya will go on to win the individual matches tournament the next day XD
If Chihaya were to win this match, this would be a HUGE victory for her because it would mean she just went onto a whole new level (straight out dealing with her greatest weakness). I would say it would definitely make up for her loss against Ousaka since she might have won if she didn’t give up her card when they fought over it.
I love your Chiyafuru reaction/analyses so much.
I don’t have much to add, except that I’m getting the feeling Nikuma-kun will lose his match. Hasn’t he been losing just about every match this tournament? Somehow, I think we’re in for some character development.
YES GODDAMN I WANTED TO PUNCH THAT ERO IN THE FACE – THAT’S DIRTY (in every sense of the word).
These episodes fly by. Ugh.
