Haha, I got you there didn’t I?!!!! /sob
So this week is the stupid cultural festival and can I emphasize enough that I am tired of this bullcrap? I am tired of Shizuku and Haru falling victim to bad writing. These two are not conflicted by feelings of others. They don’t care about other people. They obviously want to be together. And the reasons they aren’t together aren’t good enough. Not when the time they’ve spent together is way past the thinking period. They’ve gone from beginning of the semester to the culture festival and if you don’t know your Japanese time schedules this is well after the point it would make sense.
It means these two have been sitting on their asses for about 3-4 months having no other real love interests they care about with mutual feelings and having terrible reasons for not just being together.
This weeks episode is a little different because for once there is not really a denial of the want to be together. Shizuku realizes she’s made a mistake in acting the way she does and Haru wants to be with her. Of course we have more cockteasing about Yuzan and Haru and we learn Yuzan actually scares Kenji.
Speaking of Kenji we get plenty of time with him this episode, but just like Oshima he is now a device to move the protagonists together despite being attracted to one of them. Even Natsume seems like a device to move them closer together, and it really makes me angry. I am frustrated and finally realize why- no matter what you think of the plot or characters they almost always seem to move solely to push the protagonists together.
And here’s the thing- the protagonists don’t need to be pushed together. Shizuku and Haru have poorly written excuses for not being together since episode well, 2. Episode 2 folks. All of these issues could easily be written while they were in a relationship.
But I’ll give this episode one thing, it has a genuine moment between the two of them where they are both honest with each other and Shizuku even admits she’s just confused and needs more time to figure out their relationship.
That was fine. That’s cool. Except she’s been doing that since what, two episodes ago? She did it from the 2nd episode until Haru shot her down? She’s been thinking over her grades and their relationship since the series started. Just because the anime decides to have a genuine scene over it doesn’t make the plot point more original. This show is 8 episodes in and is still frustrating me.
So here’s the thing- why can’t I just drop it? Well, for some ungodly reason I like punishment. And I won’t lie, for all the quality we got from the Kamisama anime it was taken and put into Tonari. The anime is beautiful and the art is good, and even the music isn’t so bad.
BUT CUT THIS FUCKING SHIT OUT
I AM SO TIRED OF THIS BULLSHIT, WHAT IS THIS EVEN?
THEY AREN’T ADULTS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT IF THEIR RELATIONSHIP WILL GO SOMEWHERE OR IF THEY CAN SACRIFICE TIME FROM WORK OR SCHOOL AND THEIR DREAMS TO BE TOGETHER! THOSE ARE THINGS ADULTS THINK ABOUT!
THESE ARE. FUCKING. TEENAGERS. YOU KNOW WHAT THEY’D DO? THEY’D START DATING AND STRUGGLE WITH ALL OF THESE FEELINGS IN A RELATIONSHIP
I’M SOOOO MAD.
NOT TO MENTION THAT HARU WAS SURE HE LOVED SHIZUKU TO NOT THEN BEING SURE AGAIN. IT FEELS LIKE ALL THAT WAS WAS A PLOT POINT
STOP IT TONARI
STOP IT
YOU’RE MAKING ME REALLY PISSED
NOBODY DOES THIS!
AND YOU KNOW THE WORST PART? IF THEY’RE TACKLING THESE ISSUES OUTSIDE OF THE RELATIONSHIP WHAT WILL EVEN BE LEFT IN THE RELATIONSHIP? THE AUTHOR IS A COCKTEASE AND WILL NEVER HAVE THEM CONSUMMATE THE RELATIONSHIP. WE’LL HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT HUGS OR KISSES OR HAND HOLDING
DID
ALL
OF THAT
IN
EPISODE
ONE
OR WHAT, WILL YUZAN TELL THE PAST OR SOMETHING I MEAN
THEY’VE GONE ON DATES
THEY LOVE EACH OTHER
THIS IS BULLSHIT AND POOR WRITING
WHY IS IT SO SLOW AND SO POORLY PACED
WHY WHY WHY
STOP IT ANIME
STOP IT AND JUST
STOP
ARGGGGGGGGHHH
and don’t even get me started on how haru keeps accidentally punching shizuku and it’s not big deal.
FUUUUUCK
Oki
