*FANGIRL MODE OFF*
But ugh, I’m not going to lie- I’m extremely disappointed with the first episode. :\ The last five minutes however, was pretty good.
And for once, it’s not because I was over the top hyped up about it and holding too high expectations.
Here’s the problem, and this is my greatest concern for this adaption:
The Pace!
I have no idea how many episodes this is supposed to be, and judging by the OP, we’re going to at least get up to the Tengu Mountain Arc (this starts in Volume 9). I felt that it was really unnecessary to rush the beginning and modify and adjust the timing of when and how certain scenes happened like they did in the manga. Even if I hadn’t read the series beforehand, I would certainly be disappointed specifically because it was clearly rushed and if I had to describe it, it was almost like fast forwarding, no joke. That’s how fast it felt, and I’m sure that I’m not the only one who feels that way.
However the animation and character designs were pretty well done. I’m still trying to grasps both the Dragon King’s and Mikage’s colors… (I always pictured the Dragon King green… O___o;;;) I really liked how they had some almost identical scenes and image as the manga panels itself. The colors of everything felt a bit washed out, but once stepped into the Demons World, everything went vibrant and I absolutely loved it.
Onikiri and Kotetsu were definitely the main comedy factor for this episode, unfortunately I found that both Nanami and Tomoe failed to claim the spotlight- specifically because their whole first encounter happened so quickly, it was forgettable and almost non-existent. I felt that they missed the opportunity to give the new audience at least a good idea right off the bat, based on what kind of characters these two are- but it might just be me being a bit too critical.
It’s going to take me a while to get used to both Nanami’s and Tomoe’s voice. They are definitely different than I how imagined them to be, but I still like them. Mikage’s on the other hand was exactly how I imagined him to sound like.
I don’t really get why they put a permanent blush on Nanami. She doesn’t have that in the manga, I found it rather unnecessary. Oh my god, speaking of unnecessary extra, WHAT IS WITH ALL THE SPARKLES, DAZZLING EFFECTS OR WHATEVER IT’S CALLED?! I WAS ROLLING MY EYES. It was so cheesy!
Overall not an ideal start, but I’m going to pull through blogging this series regardless of whether or not it goes down hill. So lets just hope for the best.

Same. Same, same, SAME! ARGggh! I think I had too high of a standard set for it going in, or maybe I’m super picky, but…this is not what I wanted! ;__; The colors…I don’t really like that washed out look it has, some of the animation (when there was any and not just slow pans with *Sparkles!* in the background) was a tad cheep looking, the pacing left a lot to be desired…It just had shades of Bokura ga Ita written all over it (same director and some of the same staff) and I HATED that show with the fire of a thousand suns. I hope next episode will be better…otherwise I’m going to need a bucket for my tears.
:\ Yeah, the Director did Fruit Basket too- which I personally thought was okay. I mean, even that didn’t have too much overdose of sparkles and stuff. Another worry is that I just heard around the forums that this is 13 episodes (no absolute confirmation though). They have to slow down, if they don’t, I fear this will crash and burn simply because the brakes are clearly either not working or weren’t installed. :\
i love metaphors okay!?!Right now, I’m not sure whether to recommend to the new audience to go ahead and spoil themselves with the manga, or wait until the show finishes airing and THEN read the manga so that they don’t wound up too disappointed. I’ll give it a few episodes before I do so…
yet today I’ve already persuaded a bunch of my friends to get reading XDDD LOLOLOL *RUNS*DAT RAGE WAS SOMETHING TO READ ABOUT HAHAHAHAHA But really, really trully FUNNY OMG I COULD SERIOUSLY LAUGH ALL DAY WITH THIS. LAMO
