Here we are for another really weird episode of Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita ! In today’s episode, we explore the blank page of a manga. The episode has quite the interesting setting. As always, the story unfolds in very weird and unexpected ways.
I must admit that I am not an avid fan of the theme of manga, and I found the previous arc involving industry and corporations to be more exciting and entertaining, but we’ll do with what we have I guess. I’m not much of a manga reader, but I watch anime, which is the cartoon adaptation of the former when it’s good enough. I really liked the thought process of Y, how she would try to cram as many random cliffhanger elements at the end of each panel, making sure to always surprise the audience.
What makes it so funny is that, for some reason, most writers seems to do exactly as done in the show. They love to create impossible stories that doesn’t make any sense and with so many plot holes. In the end the story end up being a huge Swiss cheese where you can fit elephants in each hole since they are so big. Not only is the show mostly empty, but at some point even randomness is never really random and patterns start to emerge. No one can always be 100% original in their work, and if your story is based completely on suspense and random unexpected events, well at some point it just doesn’t feel new or fun anymore. You get a boring work of complete randomness and people start to realize that you have absolutely no clue where you are going with it. When the reader starts to realize that you are bullshitting your way through the story. When they realize that each week you are more interested in selling volumes rather than telling an interesting and meaningful story. That is when the readers lose faith in the manga and stop reading it.
But a manga writer has no choice but to write, because like it was said in this episode, if your manga fails and gets cancelled, you might as well have been killed, because there are no meaningful jobs you can do anymore. Your many years of experience with manga won’t bring you anywhere, you have no future. Watashi should have died at the end of this episode, she should be out of this world and in the darkness forever from now on, but she was lucky enough to return to the real world and now she can tell everyone the dangers of manga and how to avoid falling into their traps.
