;w; I’m finally posting this! (Gosh it’s so overdue)! It saddens me that I wasn’t able to complete covering this series since I really loved it, but at least I was able to put this together!
Animation Company: Satelight
Genre: Action, Comedy, Drama,Fantasy, Mecha, Romance, Sci-Fi
Episodes: 26
Summary: 12,000 years have passed in this world, the story of Apollon and Sylvie have become a children’s story called “Skies Of Aquaria”. The “Abductors” Invaders from Altea come to Earth with only one purpose, they invade to harvest humans. DEAVA the Aquaria Academy exists to train men and women to use Aquaria, but they cannot ever merge because of Guize stones, these block an “unholy union” between genders. The story follows Amata and Mikono in their enrollment into DEAVA, and fight the Abductors.

Story/Plot: 8/10
For someone such as myself who isn’t familiar with the pre-sequel (Sousei no Aquarion), Aquarion EVOL did a great job making it easy for the new audience to understand what’s going on. They had an entire episode devoted to the truth behind what had happened back 10 000 to 20 000 years ago. With this, it cleared everything up that you may have be confused about. Yes without a doubt there’s some… unique (I suppose that would be the right word to describe it), twists that would likely make you go, “WTF?!” or just burst out in laughter. For me, it was the later. The story was intriguing and I was always looking forward to the next episode.
Characters & Development: 8/10
I have to say, I was really pleased for most part of how the characters development and how likeable the cast was (for most part). Ironically, both Amata and Mikono were not my favourites because of their corny LOVEEEEE~, and how pathetic they were. However thankfully, Mikono, who I was rooting for the most (as I could honestly care less about Amata) had a great development. It took a long time, but it was worth it. Amata took even LONGER to man up, but even in the finale, he failed to appeal to me, but you know, he’s just not my favourite type of character, so it’s my bias opinion getting in the way here.
Animation Quality: 8/10
Considering the CG mechas and everything, i to say Satelight did a pretty darn good job with that. It took me a while to get used to, but you know, they pulled it off and I was satisfied. The animation quality for most part remained pretty constant till the end, but there were some episodes (important ones at that) where I felt the quality dropped and left me a bit disappointed. But I have to say their landscapes and sceneries were absolutely breathtaking and are still clear in my memory.
OST: 10/10
What is there NOT to love about the OST? Aquarion EVOL has a remarkable soundtrack, and always had the best OPs and EDs themes. The lyrics of most the songs are actually heavily connected to what happens in the show, which makes it more special, and is something that easily connects with the characters.
Overall Score: 8/10
Aquarion EVOL surprised me with the heart-felt romance, intriguing plot and always had me looking forward to the next episode.
I really want to stress on one thing: This show is not to be taken too seriously. If you do, you’re not going to enjoy it by the slightest. Sit back and enjoy the comedy, the romance and the heart piercing feels of your OTPs, and you will likely to enjoy this if it suits your taste.
I also want to mention this show has a particular character that will DESTROY EVERYTHING YOU LOVE. Or more accurately, EVERY OTP YOU LOVE!
His name is Mykage, the one and only character that quickly soared up to #1 on my most despised character list of all time, demoting Shirou from Fate/Stay Night (who had held that spot for five years). You may love him as a villain, but you’ll also hate him for what he does to our precious cast!
Recommendation: If you like comedy, romance and star-crossed lovers, with not too much over the top fan-service, and of course… SHIPPING, you’ll definitely love this.
