Impression

Well well well, what do we have here? I’m usually not too fond of historical shows, they have a certain tendency to suck. But in this case I might make an exception and give this show a chance.

The show as fluid computer animated animation, which makes everything a little livelier than in other anime, but on the other hand, it also makes every character feel mechanized. Their movement is so perfect that it doesn’t look natural at all, but they would make awesome dancer in a dubstep dance-off.

Another important problem I’ve noticed with the art in general is that the scenery is spectacularly beautiful, so are the main characters. But as soon as we meet a secondary character or an unimportant passer-by, suddenly the level of details falls to abysmal levels. It always kind of throw me off when I see a merchant without any facial features sitting right next to Shin with his detailed and beautiful face.

On a brighter note, the soundtrack, opening and ending theme are all audible masterpiece, they are all pleasant to listen to and they really bring you into the mood of the show. It is important to have those powerful musical scores to accompany those important scene like the death of Hyou. It really helps you get into the atmosphere and helps you feel the pain of the characters.

Now, time for a little class of history. I know the great lines of this era in Chinese history, but only the big line. I know that at some point all clan will be united again, but I have no idea of the details. So how accurate is this show in term of historical reenactment? I have no idea. I will need to do some research before I can judge what is fiction and what is reality in this show, but I’m interested to learn more about it, since it looks really fascinating.

Character time! I’m not sure If I like Shin all that much just now. Hyou was obviously the level-headed one and the one with a real future, Shin was merely following Hyou’s dream since he had no conviction or dream of his own. I like characters that have greater depth to them, a higher intellect. Wise and corrupted man are the most interesting of all. On the contrary, Shin looks pure and simple-minded. Will that make me love him even more? Or will that be the reason why I can’t watch the show seriously? We’ll see soon enough.

In any case, with the arrival of the king, I’m confident that we will see some intelligence coming from him, Shin will most likely only provide us with the action, courage and emotions we need to make this show a good balance of everything it needs to be good.

Despite all the thing I dislike about Kingdom, I think I’ll give it an honest try. It hooked me even after all the things I found wrong with it, maybe it will impressed me beyond what I could even hope for.
