Another episode 1 [First Impression]: Creepy Dead Girl

Well, for a creepy show, Another sure is creepy as hell.

Nothing too scary happened just yet, we just have a main character that possibly talks to dead girl at school. A classroom that associate the guy with an irrational painful death that happened at the school and a creepy as hell dead girl who walk around the morgue with a messed up doll in her hand. All the random picture of decapitated and messed up mannequin doesn’t help much more.

A guy arrives in a new town only to fall sick and miss the beginning of the semester, he has not even the time to attend class that his classmate visit him at the hospital and his classmates are creepy as hell. The teacher for the class as a voice so neutral that my blood freezes, usually teacher with steady neutral voice are boring, but that teacher’s voice is beyond that, it is creepy. The classroom response wasn’t much better, they all sat silently and never said a word until the end of the class. I don’t know what is wrong with that school, but I feel like the dead girl is the less creepy of the kid, even if she is dead and stuff. Everyone looks sick and those who are not look really suspicious. I would be concerned if my classmate asked me that many question at the very first day of class, especially if they already know the answer for most of the important questions. Oh and the grandparents are not any less creepier, they spend their time in a dark shrine talking about their dead daughter.

I seriously have no idea where this show is going, the setting is creepy as hell, the story is creepy as hell, but I have no clue what or how something will happen. Will this show really be scary? or will it just be  creepy and weird until the end with nothing really scary ever happening? I don’t know but you can be sure that I will try to find out. I want to blog this thing and I hope it will be good.

The one thing I fear is that the story never develop and the show simply stay a stagnant creepy story, some kind of creepy slice of life thing. I really want to see a complex and fucked up story coming out of the show, I don’t expect any less from it.

Kat’s First Impression:

My only problem with this was that the identity of Misaki was basically revealed right off the bat. It would’ve been better, in my opinion, to have to play a bit of a guessing game before the dead girl was revealed. That being said, the rest of this episode was great.

The whole 24 minutes had a creepy tone and setting to it, which, for a horror anime, I would say is (quite obviously) right on par. The show takes place in a small rural town. There’s always overcast, gloomy weather. There are quick snip-its of eerie mannequins.  All of the characters were awfully creepy as well. Not just the dead girl, Misaki, but the classmates and the grandparents had a very creepy feeling to them, too.

In the beginning of the episode when Misaki is first shown, she’s in the elevator with the main character, Sakakibara. She’s holding a demented doll in her one hand and has an eye-patch over her left eye. I can’t say I wasn’t pleased with her character design, it’s quite good. Anyway, Misaki exists the elevator on the second basement level and walks into a hallway labeled “morgue.” Ahhh! This is the one part that freaked me out the most. The hallway was completely dark and…ugh! I might have nightmares tonight. Gore I can deal with no problem, but with horror I might lose some sleep.

That being said, the first episode was a great start for this new horror anime. I think it’s going in the right direction thus far, but I guess we’ll have to wait and find out.
