Summary
This show revolves around a girl pretending to be a guy. Literally, that’s what the whole show’s about.
Okay, there’s more to it than that. So, the premise is this: Fujioka Haruhi, a very smart girl and “a commoner”, manages to get into a magnificent school for rich kids through a scholarship. Unfortunately for her, on the first day she is enslaved by the said rich kids because she destroys an 8 million yen vase (almost a 100,000 dollars in canadian dollars O_O) and she is forced to join the “Ouran High School Host Club”, a club where hot guys serve and please hot girls because rich kids have nothing better to do.
Now, during all this time, all the guys taking Haruhi as their slave believe that she is a he, so they make her become a host, however in the end they all figure out she’s a girl and yet they still make her cross-dress and serve ladies, because she has to pay her debts to them. The show then goes on as bonds form around this girl, people fall in love no duh, and in the end there’s more comedy than anything else, despite having a bit of plot development in the end.
Characters
Oh, the characters. Girls, we all know that’s the main reason why we watch this show.
Starting with Haruhi, she’s definitely one of the awesomest main characters ever. She’s blunt, she’s honest, she’s nice and she doesn’t care what other people think. She’s different from the usual goes shy and embarrassed and scared like a girly-girl and definitely stands out. You’ve gotta love her :).
Now, for the guys. You’ve got Tamaki Suoh, who’s frankly way too much of an idiot to be interesting in my opinion, however you have to admit that he does have the looks. Then, you’ve got the twins, Hikaru and Kaoru, who are just incredibly freaking sexy, however I just don’t get the incest thing. You’ve got the loli, Honey, and then the serious, shy guy, Mori, who just never stand out in the show, and in the end you’ve got the awesome, amazingly sadistic and evil and selfish Kyouya yes, he’s my fave. In case you hadn’t realized.
All the guys were very well done, they all had really nice, likeable sides, and really original, weird sides to them, which made the whole comedy thing really funny, and they are also all very hot I kinda need to mention that part. The development that goes through them is also quite noticeable for most of them, and they are very interesting. The characters are very noticeable, they’re what makes the show, and they’re the reason why this got so popular in the first place.
Overall Review
So basically, I loved this show. I watched it 3 times over already, and I’d be ready to watch it again just for laughs. The plot isn’t the best, however there’s enough there to make it into a fine storyline, the ending is decent, and the characters are amazing, especially Haruhi, the main character. As you watch the show, you start liking pretty much all the characters while you laugh at the comedy and enjoy the few bits of romance that are here and there. This is a ladies’ show however, and I dunno if many guys would love it, however it is very funny and I presonally loved it.
Recommendation: It’s a weekend thing. Literally, if you’re bored one weekend and you don’t know what to do, just watch the 26 episodes of Ouran High School Host Club and you’ll have tons of fun. It’s nice entertainment, I marathoned this very fast when I watched it for the first time, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. Watch it if you can!
P.S.: I’m curious to know which host you liked the most in the show, and why just for the hell of it. Personally, I loved Kyouya because he was just way too evil and wasn’t afraid to show it, but I don’t think it’s the same for everyone. Just post your answer in the comments if you want to!
