Seasonal Updates
Last Update: 04.10.2020

I would like to start off with this season’s update of addressing the postponement of a major announcement that was teased in late February and early March. Unfortunately due to unexpected complications, we will be holding it off until everything has been properly sorted out. In the mean time, what I can tell you is that these changes are related to the on-going internal maintenance which should be complete just before the new season kicks off. This is also part of the reason why the blog’s sidebar had been heavily pruned, a means to offer stability during this period. So thank you for your patience.

But that wasn’t the only things we have been working on. We have moved ahead with some major visual changes: The we updated the blog’s interface, an fresh new banner and color themes, and best of all we updated our blog mascot! Consider all of these things as teasers of a sort, and we look forward to sharing more details in the near future.

Another change you will be seeing is the way we do our season previews, starting with this season Spring 2020. Bear in mind, this may not be the finalized format, so consider it a BETA of a sort. This was taken into consideration of the tight time constraint we had to work with given everything that has been going on behind the scenes, which was why we released the preview later than usual.

PLEASE READ – New Format Disclaimer: The following line up in the season preview was decided by each of the writers who are participating this Spring. Everyone listed the shows they interested in, ranked them by levels of interest (High: Most Anticapted , Moderate: The Eye-Catchers, Low: Might Enjoy, Wild Picks: A Shot in the Dark). The participating writers’ rankings were then tallied and placed within the categories of interest based on the majority of votes or compromised when tied. So you will continue to see a variety of reactions based on the titles which have been selected.

  • Writers were not obligated to share their thoughts on the titles they were not interested in
  • If you wish to see the full list of the preview, you will be able to find that in Live Chart.
  • POSTPONED SERIES DUE TO COVID-19:
    • Re:Zero S2
    • Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha
    • No Guns No Life S2
    • Oregairu S3
    • SAO Alicization War of Underworld P2
  • Due to COVID-19 Crisis, some titles may be removed from the preview in the future if pushed back to another season.

Please let us know what you think of this format, it is important to us to provide you the best content we can offer!

Most Anticipated Series

Arte
アルテ

Animation Company: Seven Arcs
Premiere: April 4, 2020
Genre: Slice of Life, Historical, Drama, Romance, Seinen
Origin: Manga
Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2 | PV 3

Synopsis: 16th century Firenze, Italy. The birthplace of the Renaissance Era, where art is thriving. In one small corner of this vast city, one sheltered girl’s journey begins. Arte dreams of becoming an artist, an impossible career for a girl born into a noble family. In those days, art was an exclusively male profession, with women facing strong discrimination. In spite of these challenges, Arte perseveres with hard work and a positive attitude.

Team Impression:

Eva: When I first read the manga, it wasn’t being translated on a regular basis so I only had read a couple of chapters but I liked it a lot! I am so happy to see this series adapted!

Berry: This sounds super charming! I’m loving the setting and the plot since we don’t really get simple stories like these too often. It’ll be nice to see how Arte will persevere in this time period where women practically had no chance at anything. I’m for it!

Quietcupcake: I’ve never really been into historical anime, but this one really caught my eye. Like Berry said, it looks incredibly charming! I’m a sucker for anime where our characters have prove themselves to pursue their passions. Even though I know nothing about the anime beyond the PVs I just really want to cheer Arte on! But also? I really enjoyed the music from the PVs.

Fruits Basket (2019) Season 2
フルーツバスケット S2

However, a sudden family tragedy changes her life, and subsequent circumstances leave her all alone. Tooru is now forced to live in a tent, but little does she know that her temporary home resides on the private property of the esteemed Souma family. Stumbling upon their home one day, she encounters Shigure, an older Souma cousin, and Yuki, the “prince” of her school. Tooru explains that she lives nearby, but the Soumas eventually discover her well-kept secret of being homeless when they see her walking back to her tent one night.

Things start to look up for Tooru as they kindly offer to take her in after hearing about her situation. But soon after, she is caught up in a fight between Yuki and his hot-tempered cousin, Kyou. While trying to stop them, she learns that the Souma family has a well-kept secret of their own: whenever they are hugged by a member of the opposite sex, they transform into the animals of the Chinese Zodiac.

With this new revelation, Tooru will find that living with the Soumas is an unexpected adventure filled with laughter and romance.

Team Impression:

Eva: I fell a bit behind on the first season, but on bright side I won’t have to wait as long to continue where it left off! Season 2 is something to be excited for with content being animated for the first time! It has been a long time coming, and I know Fruit Baskets fans from all over are ready to continue our ride on the emotional rollercoaster.

Berry: The first half of Fruits Basket was pretty good, was pretty much what the original anime covered with a few new additions. Now we’re going into manga territory, which I’m totally in the dark on. I did read a bit of the manga back when I was younger in high school, but I don’t even remember where I stopped and what I even read so I’m looking forward to what the story is going to tell.

Shadow: It’s nice to see rest of the manga finally get animated after being ignored for so long. There are definitely things I’m excited to see and things I’m… not so excited to see. However, it’ll definitely be an emotional rollercoaster nonetheless!

Quietcupcake: I can’t believe season two is here! Since we’re getting into new territory for the anime I’m really excited to see how they plan to bring everything to life with the animation. I was really into this series back in middle school and you better believe that I have high expectations going into this season. I’m ready to cry!

Without the printing press, books have to be written and copied by hand, making them very expensive; as such, only a few nobles can afford them—but this won’t stop Myne. She will prove that her will to read is unbreakable, and if there are no books around, she will make them herself!

Team Impression:

Eva: Considering how done I am with isekai series in general, this one is so charming and refreshing that it’s one of the few I had actually finished watching the first cour!

Berry: Okay so as I’m writing this, I haven’t finished the first season yet but I still really enjoy it. It’s a very cool and different twist on the isekai formula where instead of having a male character and lots of action and cute girls, we have a much slower-paced story starring a bookworm trying her best to get her hands on a book. It’s a very wholesome and charming story and Myne is a great character. It’s nice getting more female isekai anime such as another show this season…

Aplus: I really liked the first season on this show. It was wholesome and very simple, but still had moments of darkness and paved the way for a serious plot. It had me laughing, hyped, and just genuinely interested in the story and what would happen to Myne. I am excited for where season 2 goes and I hope she actually gets to make a full fledged book soon!

Team Impression:

Eva: LET’S FREAKING GOOOOOOOOO!!!!! WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MOMENT, OUR BEST BOIS ARE BACK AND I AM HYPED FOR RE:VALE!!! We have been holding a marathon together as a countdown for Season 2! If you haven’t watched the first season, you gotta do it! Also be sure to watch Vibrato, you won’t regret it!

Berry: I’ve been waiting forever for this and I was scared a second season wasn’t going to happen but here we are! I’ve really been controlling myself to not check out spoilers or just look up the game online because I wanted the anime instead. And I’m super hyped to see more of i7, Trigger, and now we get Re:vale! I’m excited to see what they’ll bring to the group~

Shadow: I have been SUPER HYPED for this season and have just been impatiently waiting for it to finally drop. As an impatient heathen, I have gone and read through Part 2 that covers this upcoming season so there are definitely a lot of great and emotional moments heading your way with this new season! I had a really fun time covering and watching Vibrato, so I’m definitely eager to see this part fully animated.

Quietcupcake: Bless Eva, Berry, and Shadow for introducing me to i7 because I am having so much fun with this series. I don’t know if I’ll be all caught up by the time the anime airs, but you better believe that I will be marathoning it once it all comes out!

Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2 | PV 3

Synopsis: The second season of Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen.
Kaguya Shinomiya and Miyuki Shirogane are the members of the incredibly prestigious Shuichi’in Academy’s student council, asserting their positions as geniuses among geniuses. All the time they spend together has caused the two of them to develop feelings for each other, but their pride will not allow them to be the one to confess and become the submissive one in the relationship! Love is war, and their battle to make the other confess begins now!

Team Impression:

Shadow: I absolutely LOVED the first season as each episode had me laughing hysterically. The characters are so much fun to watch and I honestly didn’t expect to love Kaguya as much as I do. She’s so flipping adorable and I support her endeavors for love. And being impatient YET AGAIN, I’ve read a bit of the manga and I look forward to seeing how the anime will take each scenario.

Aplus: I mean, it’s just a great rom-com. Too be honest, I’m not really interested in the main romance. I just like the characters so much and it’s funny enough that I stick around. Hayasaka, Ishigami, and of course Chika are basically why I watch.

Quietcupcake: I think Kaguya-sama is a lot of fun. It’s silly, absurd, but all around a good light-hearted show to watch. I love all the characters so I’m excited to see them back in action again! I was in the hospital around the time when I was watching season 1 and this series just made the whole situation a lot more bearable.

No Guns Life S2
ノー・ガンズ・ライフ

Animation Company: MADHOUSE
Website: http://nogunslife.com/
Premiere: April 2, 2020
Genre: Action, Drama, Sci-Fi
Source Material: Manga
Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2 | PV 3

Synopsis: 2nd Cour of No Guns Life.

After the war, there are many “Extends” in the city, people whose bodies were modified to make them into dangerous weapons. Inui Juuzou is one of them, and he has no memories of his life and body before his head was transformed into a gun. Strangely enough, his head-gun is designed so that only someone behind him can pull the trigger. Juuzou makes a living by taking on cases involving Extends in the city, and he is assisted by Mary, an intelligent young woman that he has taken under his protection.

Team Impression:

Aplus: I like cop dramas. Yes, his head also happens to be a gun, but that’s neither here nor there. There’s no major pull from this show, I’m not particularly dying to watch it, but I liked season 1 and it had enough action and character development for me to stick around. Basically, I really just want to see the Berühren Corporation in turmoil so I’m really crossing my fingers for that. I hope Inui is able to fight back instead of just being on the receiving end of everything.

She used to be an otaku who died on her way to school after spending the previous night playing Fortune Lover, her favorite otome game. After noticing that her current surroundings seem oddly familiar, she is shocked to discover that she has been reincarnated into the world of Fortune Lover as the villainess.

The villainess in the game usually winds up dead or exiled, so Katarina decides to use her knowledge of the game and its routes to avoid any bad situations. But is it even possible for the villainess to reach a good ending?

Team Impression:

Eva: Oh man I am so excited for this one! This is a light-hearted series with some great comedy! I suspect the anime will probably progress faster than the novel, which is known for its slow start, so I’m looking forward to seeing how this will be adapted!

Berry: So like I said, nice to get more female isekai stuff, even though the word isekai makes me shudder. I will go into this one a little cautiously like I do any isekai that at least mildly gets my attention, but this honestly sounds hilarious. Again, it sounds like a fun twist and is just silly so that’s enough to make me check it out.

Shadow: I honestly though I would be done with isekai anime, but after watching Re:zero recently (four years late, I know), I’ve opened myself up the possiblity of other isekais being possibly good. So I’m willing to give this one a chance and see if it’ll tickle my funny bone or peak my interest.

Aplus: Isekai, yes please. It sounds funny and super meta too.

Quietcupcake: Ever since this anime was announced I haven’t really stopped thinking about it, quite frankly I’m just really excited for it! This anime seems like a lot of fun! I love the premise and character designs. I have no idea what to expect from it, but at the very least it’ll be something lighthearted to turn to during the spring season.

Ever since he was little, Souma Yukihira’s main goals have been to beat his father in a cooking contest and take over the family diner. That’s why, when his dad suddenly announces that he’s shutting the restaurant down and sending Souma to cooking school, Souma is shocked. However, Totsuki Academy is no ordinary cooking school. This elite institution is filled with culinary giants like Erina “God Tongue” Nakiri, who does her best to keep a lowly short-order like Souma from even making it inside the door. However, if the snobs can dish it out, Souma can serve it up, and when he learns that only a handful of the students manage to graduate every year, he swears that the only way he’ll leave is as number one!

Team Impression:

Aplus: I have a love/hate relationship with this show. I feel like every other season, or sometimes half of one season, is just absolutely terrible. The pacing is horrendous sometimes, the art quality dips often, and the show is just so repetitive. Regardless, I have watched 4 seasons and I’m not stopping here! I will watch, I will probably complain to my friends, and I will probably finish the season on good terms with the show.

Synopsis: Last part of Alicization arc

Team Impression:

Aplus: I feel guilty giving this show any positive affection, because literally anytime I talk positively of it online I get absolutely wrecked for having awful taste. HOWEVER, Alicization is great, most of SAO is apart from ALO and GGO in my opinion. The ending of this season was such a cliffhanger and I am just absolutely hyped to see where it goes now that everyone is in the underworld.

Hachiman Hikigaya is an apathetic high school student with narcissistic and semi-nihilistic tendencies. He firmly believes that joyful youth is nothing but a farce, and everyone who says otherwise is just lying to themselves. In a novel punishment for writing an essay mocking modern social relationships, Hachiman’s teacher forces him to join the Volunteer Service Club, a club that aims to extend a helping hand to any student who seeks their support in achieving their goals. With the only other club member being the beautiful ice queen Yukino Yukinoshita, Hachiman finds himself on the front line of other people’s problems—a place he never dreamed he would be. As Hachiman and Yukino use their wits to solve many students’ problems, will Hachiman’s rotten view of society prove to be a hindrance or a tool he can use to his advantage?

Team Impression:

Eva: Gosh it’s been such a long time, I am definitely in need for a refresh! This is one of my favourite slice of life series so I am SO HAPPY that season three has finally arrived!

Aplus: The long awaited season. Finally. When I watched this show several years ago I related to 8man on a spiritual level. I also shipped him and Iroha, who remains the best girl. I’m very curious to see if I still relate to his extreme skepticism and general personality. That’s probably my driving motivation for watching the new season.

Yu☆Gi☆Oh: Sevens
遊☆戯☆王SEVENS

Animation Company: Bridge
Website: https://www.tv-tokyo.co.jp/anime/yugioh-sevens/
Premiere: April 4, 2020
Genre: Action, Game, Fantasy, Shounen
Source Material: Game
Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2 | PV 3
Synopsis: A new television anime series for the 20th anniversary of the anime franchise.

Team Impression:

Eva: When they first revealed the details of YGO SEVENS, like most of the fandom base, I wasn’t mentally prepared for the dramatic changes they made with the character designs. Seriously, when you watch the announcement PV and compare how it looked up until now, it’s a jarring contrast. The team can vouch for my reaction when it first came out, I legit didn’t know how to react.

“WTF. This is supposed to be the 20th Anniversary title? What is with the new character designs?! I don’t know how i feel about this!”

I am glad I saw the announcement when it was first released because it allowed me to get over my feelings of disappointment sooner rather than later. Once I finished grieving for the loss of the iconic designs I have known since childhood, the new designs did grow on me to the point I now find them rather cute.

That being said, let’s also be super real about this: they are so generic. The previous characters designs were so iconic that you knew it was YGO. Although they kept the main protagonist’s signature floofy hairstyle (but a simplified version of it), it doesn’t carry the same energy. Needless to say, will also be very interesting to see whether or not this decision will backfire on them when we have another card game show (Shadowverse) coming out and ironically, it  looks and feels a lot more of what we’d expect of a revamped YGO’s character designs than this one. Awkward.

But that isn’t the only major change they have made. YGO SEVENS will have a lot of brand new staff, many who had not taken part of the previous series (with the exception of Toshimitsu Takeuchi and Masahiro Hikokubo being the two exceptions at this time), switching to Bridge for the series animation. I will admit, I was initially a bit bummed out they switched out the director again. I truly felt Katsuya Asano did a great job with YGO VRAINS, and was hoping to see him at the helm again. Another major change is that Shin Yoshida who has been responsible for YGO’s series composition for a long time is not part of the staff this time. I don’t know if he will be involved in the script process in the future, I haven’t seen any details in regards to that yet. Nevertheless with fresh new writers, I am curious to see which direction the story will go. If there’s one thing I have observed is by bringing back Blue-Eyed Dragon, reminds me a lot of how ZEXAL cycled back to its youngest protagonist. This is something I expected to happen since I have always felt the series’ protagonists would ‘age’ with the demographic they started out and it is a tradition I have always enjoyed.

Despite all the changes I am still excited to watch YGO SEVENS, so you can count on me covering it for at least a few episodes to see where it goes.

Cheers to YGO’s 20th Anniversary!

Animation Company: SANZIGEN
Website: https://anime.argo-bdp.com/
Premiere: April 11, 2020
Genre: Music
Source Material: Other
Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2 | PV 3

Synopsis: Ren Nanahoshi is a lonely college student who isn’t good at communicating with others. He remembers the thrill of watching a live band perform when he was young, and spent most of his days searching for his own identity. One day, while singing karaoke alone, two boys named Yuuto and Wataru discover Ren’s singing ability. The two agree: “This is fate. Let’s start a band!” Ren promptly runs away, but fate indeed steps in, and their journey begins.

Team Impression:

Eva: When Berry first told me about Bang Dream! having a male counterpart I was like, “TELL ME MORE!”. I am looking forward to seeing how this one plays out!!!

Berry: Okay so you know I’m excited for this. With the popularity boom of Bang Dream! with it currently celebrating its 4th anniversary, it’s not surprising that the team thought up a male version of Bang Dream!, similar to what Idolmaster did. They’ve been building up Argonavis and I’ve been following the news and the new bands, and I’m really looking forward to this anime and their game that’ll come out later in the year. I’m loving that the guys are college age and up, their designs, Argonavis’ music, and how much more mature it all sounds. So if Idolish7 isn’t enough cute music guys for you, let’s check out Argonavis together! 🙂

Aplus: This will be an interesting test for me. The only idol show I’ve ever stuck with is BanG Dream. I’m mostly just curious if I’ll be as interested in this show as the original. I love the music and keep up with it outside of the show (any Morfonica fans?) so I’m also hopeful I’ll enjoy this.

Quietcupcake: Oh! This is really exciting! I love BanG Dream, but I primarily just play the game and haven’t been very good about keeping up with the anime, (but I plan on catching up eventually!) so I don’t really know a lot about Argonavis. I’ll probably be checking this anime out once it finishes airing!

Synopsis: In the 21st century, the existence of animal-humans came to light after being hidden in the darkness of history. Michiru lived life as a normal human, until one day she suddenly turns into a tanuki-human. She runs away and takes refuge in a special city area called “Anima City” that was set up 10 years ago for animal-humans to be able to live as themselves. There Michiru meets Shirou, a wolf-human who hates humans. Through Shirou, Michiru starts to learn about the worries, lifestyle, and joys of the animal-humans. As Michiru and Shirou try to learn why Michiru suddenly turned into an animal-human, they unexpectedly get wrapped up in a large incident.

Note: The first 6 episodes were pre-streamed on Netflix on March 21st. The regular TV broadcast started on April 9th.

Team Impression:

Eva: Oh gosh TRIGGER… As usual it’s a hit or miss for me, but I get the feeling I will probably be tuning in for this one. Hopefully this will be one of the better ones for me.

Berry: So, lately Trigger has been a bit disappointing for me. I’ve never caught on when they tried doing more serious works like Franxx and Kiznaiver, so I kind of fell off of Trigger things for awhile until I watched Promare. It was insane, fun, and really stupid but that was the Trigger that I always cared for and loved. BNA looks like it’ll take more of the exaggerated fun route this time and I’m real excited for it. The story itself sounds pretty cool too and I’m looking forward to see what they’ll really do.

Shadow: Ever since I got into Kiznaiver, I started looking into more Trigger shows and ended up really liking Kill la Kill, SSSS Gridman and Promare. So I’m definitely interested in seeing where they take this “furry” show lol. Though from the looks of it, it’ll probably some good fun and I eagerly look forward to it~

Aplus: Trigger! Yes, give me more. I know many people have a rocky relationship with them, but I love all of their stuff. Gridman was such as good show that went really under the radar. I think the most attention it got was Rikka’s thighs. This looks great, plot-wise and I’ll entrust the execution to Trigger.

Taichi’s mother and his younger sister Hikari get stuck on a train that won’t stop moving, and Taichi heads to Shibuya in order to help them. However, on his way there, he encounters a strange phenomenon and sweeps him up into the Digital World along with the other DigiDestined

Team Impression:

Eva: Oh yeah I am definitely watching this. Although I didn’t follow the series regularly on television as a kid (only caught it whenever it was on, I had no sense of time back then lol), it it still quite nostalgic to see again!

Berry: I barely remember the original Digimon even though I did like it a lot when I was a kid. It’s pretty cool that they’re doing like an alternative story so I think it’ll be fun to check out.

Shadow: After the five less than sub-par movies of Tri, I started losing faith in Digimon a bit. However, I am curious as to where they’ll take this reboot and if they can capture the original Digimon feeling and fun.

Berry: The show didn’t catch my attention at first but the PV really helped. I’ll check it out if enough people say it’s really good, or I might just watch it much later. That music is sexy~

Aplus: I love mysteries in general, but this particularly peaks my interest. It sounds like the dynamic of the two very different detectives working together will also be a nice touch and add a lot of characterization.

Quietcupcake: lol Eva. I am in to this music. I haven’t found a mystery anime that I’ve been into in quite some time and I’m a sucker for characters with different ideals having to work together for a common goal. I’m excited to see what this anime will bring!

Gleipnir
グレイプニル

Animation Company: Pine Jam
Website: http://gleipnir-anime.com/
Premiere: April 5, 2020
Genre: Action, Mystery, Supernatural, Ecchi, Seinen
Source Material: Manga
Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2 | PV 3

Synopsis: Kagaya Shuuichi is an ordinary high school kid in a boring little town. But when a beautiful classmate is caught in a warehouse fire, he discovers a mysterious power: he can transform into a furry dog with an oversized revolver and a zipper down his back. He saves the girl’s life, sharing his secret with her. But she’s searching for the sister who killed her family, and she doesn’t care how degrading it gets: she will use Shuuichi to accomplish her mission…

Team Impression:

Aplus: I like that the synopsis specifies that she’s beautiful. Because if she wasn’t none of this would have happened. The transforming into a furry with a zipper reminds of the new manga Zipman. It just sounds crazy and maybe it won’t be good at all, but it’s an action/mystery/ecchi. I like plots that kind of make no sense. They feel like the ones with the most potential to be great shows. My interest is piqued enough to at least attempt to cover it.

Quietcupcake: Okay, by synopsis alone I generally wouldn’t be interested, but when combining that with the PV? I might just have to check out the first few episodes. I checked out the synopsis of the source manga as well, and that definitely captured me a little bit more. I have no idea what to expect from it, but at the very least the characters seem super engaging.

Kakushigoto
かくしごと (TV)

Animation Company: Ajia-Do
Website: https://kakushigoto-anime.com/
Premiere: April 2, 2020
Genre: Comedy, Slice of Life
Source Material: Manga
Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2 | PV 3

Synopsis: This story is about Gotou Kakushi, an artist who draws a somewhat vulgar manga, and tries to hide it for the sake of his daughter, Hime. A father-daughter tale of love and laughter.

Team Impression:

Eva: This is definitely one of the few series this season that I am really looking forward to! I have heard great things about the manga and I’m a huge fan of the art-style too! Sign me up for the wholesome content!

Berry: This does seem pretty cute but I’m not too sure. Again, this’ll be another where I’ll have to see people’s reactions to it.

Shadow: I feel like this is one of those shows that has a 50/50 chance of either being hilariously great or will miss the mark. But I feel rather hopeful and I’m curious to see where this anime will go. Though I do hope that nothing… too weird happens considering the topic.

Aplus: I just like father daughter shows. I like the way that relationship usually unfolds. The premise sounds either really funny or meh, but I think it’s worth a watch either way.

Quietcupcake: This one looks really charming and like it will be a really good time. Father-daughter shows are generally pretty heart warming and always a good pick me up. I’ll probably be watching this one, but it might be on the back burner for me.

Kami no Tou
タワーオブ・ゴッド | Tower of God  | 신의 탑

Animation Company: Telecom Animation Film
Website: https://tog-anime.com/
Premiere: April 1, 2020
Genre: Action, Adventure, Drama, Fantasy, Mystery
Source Material: Manhwa
Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2 | PV 3

Synopsis: Tower of God centers around a boy called Twenty-Fifth Bam, who has spent most of his life trapped beneath a vast and mysterious Tower, with only his close friend, Rachel, to keep him company. When Rachel enters the Tower, Bam manages to open the door into it as well, and faces challenges at each floor of this tower as he tries to find his closest companion.

Note: Part of Crunchyroll’s Originals, partnership with Naver/Webtoon. You can read the Official English Translation on WEBTOONS, or read the original source on Comics.Naver. The anime will have a simultaneous release in Japan, South Korea, and the United States.

Team Impression:

Eva: Tower of God is a popular Korean web-comic that I haven’t read yet (it seems I am always missing the boat for the hyped series lol) but I am excited to see the collaboration! There is a lot of hype so I am looking forward to seeing it animated!

Berry: It really is cool that more stories from other countries are getting anime nowadays. I’ve heard a lot of hype about this one and it honestly sounds and looks really cool so I’m willing to give it a shot.

Shadow: While I’m not personally excited for this series specifically, I find it exciting that more than just Japanese manga are being picked up to be made into anime. First Radiant, which was a French comic and now a webtoon series! That’s honestly really cool! I hope more series like this get picked up and made into an anime. We don’t talk about things like the Powerpuff Girl and Stich animes.

Aplus: I like that it’s a non-Japanese source, and that it’s getting attention. That’s just a sidenote though, I genuinely think the plot sounds interesting and I’ve heard similar things from friends so usually if a friend is watching I’m like 10x more likely to pick it up too.

Team Impression:

Eva: Color me intrigued, you have two of my favourite genres jammed together, not to mention MAPPA behind this. They have a strong record of dishing out good shows, so I am look forward to seeing how this one turns out!

Aplus: I agree with Eva, this sounds just too unique to not check out. There’s a chance it’s not good at all, the synopsis is very very vague. It’s one of those wait and see shows.

Quietcupcake: Hi, it’s me, your local KagePro fan. As soon as I saw that Jin would be involved with this anime I immediately put it on my watch list. And to find out MAPPA will be providing animation? I’m so excited to what this anime will be! I might be going in with really high hopes, but hey! I think it’s worth checking out!

It turns out that Mew has the power of “Yume Synchro” (Dream Synchro), the power to enter dreams. In the dream world, the girl and Mew collect Dream Stones.

Team Impression:

Eva: IT’S SO CUTEEEEEEEE!!!! You know I am a sucker for this stuff, so yes I am watching! Not sure if I would cover it though. It’s tempting…

Berry: So this is so freaking cute that I have to watch it, though the way that cat moves is kind of unnerving. I was possibly thinking of also grabbing this one to blog but I’m not too sure about that. This might just be a cute show to just watch and relax to. Loving that Sanrio keeps dishing out anime since I pretty much enjoy all of them (though I never finished that Sanrio Boys one). I love cute shit.

Aplus: Literally just here for the cuteness. I have a hard time believing this will have any meaningful plot but god damn it will be cute.

Animation Company: C2C
Website: https://shachibato-anime.com/
Premiere: April 5, 2020
Genre: Fantasy
Source Material: Game
Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2 | PV 3

Synopsis: Anime adaptation of the smartphone strategy game. The isekai strategy role-playing game is set in a world where dimensional gates suddenly appeared in the skies, opening portals to countless dungeons. The story imagines if the player is a company president who employs adventurers to take on dungeons filled with monsters for the treasures that lie within. The player “recruits” or trains fighters, mages, knights, hunters, rogues, and other classes of employees, and then dispatches the employees into battles.

Team Impression:

Aplus: Shows revolving around strategy just sound interesting and the animation is super cute. The PVs don’t really reveal much and I don’t know exactly what a smartphone game adaption entails. Nevertheless, I’m here for it.

Yesterday wo Utatte

Animation Company: Doga Kobo

Genre: Drama, Romance, Slice of Life
Source Material: Manga
Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2 | PV 3

Synopsis: The coming-of-age story follows a university graduate named Rikuo who has not been able to find permanent employment after college, a mysterious woman named Haru who has a pet crow, and Rikuo’s former university classmate Shinako.

Team Impression:

Eva: Relatable struggle, check! Intriguing characters, check! Romance, CHECK! I am really excited for this one because this the type of slice of life formula i enjoy the most. Not to to mention I am hungry for romance, so bring it on!

Berry: This one is probably going to hit close to home in some aspects. The style is gorgeous and has a calming atmosphere, and it really does interest me. It looks like it can be a nice drama depending on the direction is decides to go in, and I hope it’ll be intriguing.

Aplus: Anything to do with post-high school nearly always gives an insta-watch from me. It’s just more relatable and I like the maturity better. That being said, this specific plot speaks to me, and my 6-7 month job search that ensued after graduating college recently. Normally slice of life doesn’t mix with me, but the romance and drama might be interesting enough to make me keep watching.

Quietcupcake: This one definitely caught my eye when I was first looking into what was airing this season. I’m a sucker for series like these and it’s nice to see a series following recent graduates rather than high school students. After watching the PV, I definitely got the vibe that the series could have been a movie, so I’m interested to see how the story will play out episodically.

Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2 | PV 3

Synopsis: After a certain mishap, the brilliant but socially inept engineer Apare Sorano and the shrewd but cowardly samurai Kosame Isshiki find themselves drifting on a boat from Japan to America. Broke, the two decide to compete in the Trans-America Wild Race to win the prize and return to Japan. The two battle crazy rivals, outlaws, and the great outdoors itself as they race through the wild West from the starting line in Los Angeles to the finish line in New York – in the steam-powered car they built.

Team Impression:

Eva: Yo this looks so much fun to watch! I don’t know how it’s going to turnout, but at least for the time being I am excited for it!

Berry: So this sounds really freaking cool. I wonder if it’ll go in the Wacky Races type of direction. This sounds amazing but I am worried that, like Shadow said, it could possibly be boring. With a premise like this, it could really go in any direction whether it’ll be “realistic” or zany so I have no idea, so it does make me a little wary to blog it. But the idea of it is cool enough so I’m gonna give it a go.

Shadow: Again, I feel like there’s a 50/50 chance of this being really good or kind of boring. I’m curious to see if it’ll be any good, but I’ll withhold my judgement until it comes out.

Aplus: This honestly just sounds like a blast. Like it will be just a really fun time.

Having no administrative skill, he can’t do anything to manage the vast land his family has. Fortunately, he is blessed with a very rare talent, the talent of magic. Unfortunately, while his talent could bring prosperity to his family, in his situation it only brought disaster. This is the story of the boy, Wendelin Von Benno Baumeister, opening his own path in a harsh world.

Team Impression:

Aplus: This show may just be another generic isekai, I accept that that’s a possibility. But it sounds kind of like Saga of Tanya the Evil and even a bit like Ascendance of A Bookworm. That alone is kind of enough to get me interested. I also just generally give all isekai a shot.

Premiere: April, 8, 2020
Genre: Comedy, Slice of Life

Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2 | PV 3

She meets upperclassman Kuroiwa as she walks along an embankment and joins the mysterious “Embankment Club.” Hina dislikes sea creatures, but she fishes with her fellow club members and eats their catches. She gradually starts to appreciate the appeal of the ocean.

Team Impression:

Eva: This looks wholesome and cute to watch, so it looks like the perfect show to sit back and enjoy.
Aplus: I just want to learn the appeal of the ocean. It will be like me, in my dark room, living vicariously through this anime. It sounds peaceful, relaxing and (hopefully) informative. That’s really all I’m looking for. Might be a good fluff show if nothing else.

Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2 | PV 3

Synopsis: In a world consisting of numerous isles, a young hero from the Astora Isle encounters the adventurer Kyle and follows him on an expedition on the isle. They meet a mysterious girl named Iris and a talking white cat, and together they make their way to the isle’s ruins, where they find a flying island. Kyle becomes consumed by darkness there, and the party resolves to travel to the ends of the world on the flying island in order to find the seven “Great Runes”, following Kyle’s words before he disappeared.

Team Impression:

Shadow: This LOOKS really nice art wise and it’s a very interesting premise and world. HOWEVER, this looks pretty ambitious and I’m worried that they’ll try and shove way too many things in at once. Considering this is a game adaptation, I would not be surprised if that’s how it’ll down. Well, if I hear it’s any good, I’ll probably end up watching it. But due to the track record of game adaptations, I’m not too optimistic. Also, one look at the main character and I said: “If this guy is voiced by Kaito Ishikawa, I’m immediately skipping this.” Ends up being Yuki Kaji… I don’t know whether that is better or worse considering he is the opitamy of Protag voices.

Aplus: Sounds like a lot and not much will actually be able to happen since they’re trying to plan so much. When your goal is so big, even completing a different relatively big goals is still like, ok… but that has nothing to do with your actual goal so who cares? It looks great though and visuals matter more to me than they probably should so yes, yes, yes.

Tamayomi

Animation Company: studio A-CAT
Website: https://tamayomi.com/
Premiere: April 1, 2020
Genre: Sports, Slice of Life
Source Material: Manga
Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2 | PV 3

Synopsis: In her Junior High years, the pitcher Yomi Takeda was not able to get very far in a cross-school baseball tournament. Since the catcher on her team wasn’t at her level, she couldn’t use her signature move, the “Magic Throw,” and eventually regretted not being able to use it. After Junior High, she decided to stop playing baseball and went to Shin Koshigaya High School, a school without a baseball club.

There, she found her long lost childhood friend, Tamaki Yamazaki, who used to play catch ball with her when they were kids. Tamaki also played baseball during her Junior High years as a catcher, and could even catch Yomi’s “Magic Throw!”
Their promise with each other during their childhood could now be fulfilled! Walking together on the road of baseball once again…

Team Impression:
Eva: I must confess, when it comes to baseball series, it can be hard for me to finish. The majority of the time I never finish it, and the only one I can recall ever finishing watching was Princess Nine and Touch (I’ve read the manga, can’t remember if I finished the anime…which reminds me, I need to get onto the marathon of the MIX series I’ve been planning for a long time now but I digress.

ANYHOW, I really want to give this a go and I hope it’s good!

Berry: Please be good, please be good, please be good, please be good, this looks like it might be cool PLEASE BE GOOD

Aplus: SPORTS. I really like baseball too. I watched MIX from a few seasons ago and loved it so much. Not that this will be that, but sports in general are very up my alley.

Quietcupcake: I’ve had my eye on this one for a while and I’ve honestly seen the hype for the series waver since it was announced. I’ll probably check it out, but essentially I agree with Berry.

Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2 | PV 3

Synopsis: You are in a world where you can meet famous Japanese historical writers. With a party composed of other writers, you delve into tainted books to purify them, unlock secrets, and gain new allies.

Team Impression:

Eva: Shit, why do they have to be so handsome. You know I am a sucker for this stuff, so one way or another I will be watching this. I am not holding my breath for anything too grand, but as long the plot has enough substance to make it interesting, I might pick it up.

Shadow: Sooo, Bungou Stray Dogs but as an otome? I mean, it definitely gives off the feeling of an otome, but we’ll see. I’m more so curious as to what this even is, but just judging from the looks of it, I don’t think it’ll be anything to WRITE home about. I’ll see myself out. But if I hear that it’s actually good, I’ll probably give it a watch.

Aplus: Almost nothing to go on, but… I’m interested. I like unlocking secrets and gaining new allies. Don’t see how this could be bad.

With just one recording, the many eccentric facets of Minare’s life begin to pull every which direction as she falls ever deeper into the world of radio.

Team Impression:

Eva: Oh my god the PVs has me in stitches from laughing so hard. I am looking forward to watching this series play out!

Berry: Another one where I’m a little unsure. But not gonna lie, seeing her practice her radio stuff in front of a bear (and then fighting it?) is fucking hilarious.

Aplus: It sounds so unlike other things I’ve heard that I am just curious about seeing what it’s capable of.

Quietcupcake: This seems absolutely hilarious and like it could be a good time. But I might hold off on this one until I hear what others are saying about it.

Princess Connect! Re:Dive

Website: https://anime.priconne-redive.jp/
Premiere: April 7, 2020
Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy
Source Material: Game
Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2 | PV 3

Synopsis: Set in the lovely land of Astoria where a gentle wind blows, Princess Connect! Re:Dive follows the adventures of: Yuuki, an amnesiac young man; Kokkoro, a small guide who looks after Yuuki; Pecorine, a beautiful swordswoman who is constantly hungry; and Karyl, a cat-eared magical girl with a somewhat cool personality. These fateful four form a guild entitled “Bishoku-dono” (“Epicurean Hall”) and embark on delicious adventures together.

Team Impression:

Shadow: I am legit annoyed at how good this looks. Everything looks so smooth and UGH. However, the MC looks like another Kirito clone and definitely seems to be leaning more so on the moe side of the spectrum with a side of action and adventure. Not my cup of tea so I probably will have to give this show a pass.

Aplus: I just see no reason to not watch this. A magical cat girl with a cool personality, sorry somewhat cool, a beautiful swordswoman, an amnesiac?, and just an eating adventure. Oh, I guess they’ll also be fighting too. Sure, sure, that too.

Shadowverse

Animation Company: ZEXCS
Website: https://anime.shadowverse.jp
Premiere: April 7, 2020
Genre: Fantasy, Game
Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2 | PV 3

Synopsis: The story centers on Hiiro Ryuugasaki, a student at Tensei Academy. Through a strange incident, Hiiro obtains a mysterious smartphone. The smartphone has installed the popular digital card game “Shadowverse.” Through the game Hiiro meets rivals, participates in tournaments, and forms bonds with others.

Team Impression:

Eva: I am unfamiliar with Shadowverse’s game (as I never played it), but after looking it up a bit I learned many fans are bummed out that they didn’t go in the lore direction. I think that would’ve been super cool to see, so it’s a shame that they didn’t. Nevertheless, because it looks and feels so similar to YGO (and one can argue it visually even looks better…>_>), I can’t help but be curious about how they will go about its original plot-line, and how it will compare. That being said, bear in mind ZEXCS isn’t known for producing long series, so I suspect this one will probably only be for a cour or two, unless they decide they want to make it 50 episodes like they did with Lady Jewel Pet. Anyhow, I’m looking forward to seeing how the two play out haha!

Aplus: This is probably not the best reasoning, but I’m here just to laugh. As a fan of the shadowverse game, I’m disappointed and unimpressed. Prepare yourself

OVERALL THOUGHTS

Eva: Spring 2020 certainly feels different this year with everything going on in the world right now. It is a difficult time for many, and my heart goes out to those who are impacted by COVID-19. While life is grim at the moment, this season of anime offers a great escape with many titles to enjoy such as the news seasons of Fruit Baskets, Idolish7! Second Beat, Oregairu S3, and some promising new titles like Arte, BNA, Kakushigoto, Otome Game no Hametsu, Tower of God, Yesterday wo Utatte. There are a ton of shows I am interested in watching! I can gurantee you will be continueing the coverage of Idolish7, the other titles up for contention are Bungou to Alchemist: Shinpan no Haguruma because of… reasons, Fugou Keiji: Balance:Unlimited, my go-to mystery fix, Appare-Ranman! because it looks super fun, and Mewkledreamy because the cuteness can’t keep me away. I also intend to give Shadowverse a go to see how it rolls and of course, as per usual I will be covering YGO SEVENS for few weeks to see where it goes! Until then, please stay take care of yourselves everyone! ; v ; /

Berry: I’ve been experiencing a bit of an anime burnout recently so I feel like I’m really gonna roll back on the amount of shows I take and watch. Argonavis is a definite yes, but Appare Ranman and Kami no Tou both grab my interest as well so we’ll see if I end up covering both of them. But hey, there’s some really exciting things coming out this season like the second seasons of Fruits Basket, Ascendance of a Bookworm, and Idolish7. We also are getting some other exciting ones (at least for me) like Arte, BNA, Mewkledreamy, Otome Game no Hametsu. There’s others here and there I’ll keep my eyes on but I might take it a little easy this time around. One thing to take into account this season anyways is what’s happening in the world right now with the virus, so there might be some bumps in the road with some shows this season. We’ve already had delays and shows pushed back so I hope this season ends up okay. I also hope you all take care, be smart, and stay safe~ <3

Shadow: Overall, I’m not surprised by how little series are coming out this season considering the circumstances world-wide. But kudos and mad respect to those who are still willing to come out during this time. I’m a little disappointed that some series were postponed, but again, it was to be expected, but from the series that are coming out, I am definitely the most exicted for BNA, Idolish7 Second Beat (naturally) and Kaguya-sama. Also interested to see how Fruits Basket’s second season goes. A little curious about Appare-Ranman!, Digimon Adventure, Kashigoto, and Otome Game no Hametsu. All in all, this season may be smaller, but it still has some exciting stuff coming out and I look forward to what these series have in store~

Aplus: Gleipnir, Oregairu S3, and Princess Connect! Re:Dive seem the most likely for me to cover. I’ll spare you the yellow bolding because it hurts my damn eyes. Oh, I also keep covering Railgun T! I’m loving it. Gleipnir sounds just fun. Princess Connect is the wild card in that I don’t know if there will actually be much to talk about? I’m so down though. Oregairu has been a great time over the two seasons, so I’m honestly just pumped that it’s back and I get to see more Hachiman. The rest of season has a decent balance of genres. A lot of unique storylines, that may or may not be very interesting. Some randos that I just want to watch burn *cough* Shadowverse. It’s a shame with what’s going on in the world that some shows got delayed, and I’m sure there will be ripple effects for a few more seasons. I hope everyone is able to stay safe. Both the shows I covered this past season got delayed big time. I got so bored staying in that I calculated that it’d take me 16.3 years, if I watch 15 shows a season, to hit 365 straight days of anime if you count episode times. I’m at 190 days now. This is totally irrelevant, I just wanted to share. New life goal in the making…

Quietcupcake: Wow! There’s a pretty good mix of anime this season that I’m excited for, and there look to be a lot of hidden gems hidden throughout! I have a feeling I won’t be able to keep up with all of them while they’re airing, but you better believe I’m going to do the best I can. There’s a plethora of sequels coming out this spring and I definitely plan on watching Fruits Basket and Kaguya-sama. I still need to catch up on i7, so I’ll probably have to hold of on Second Beat and just marathon it when it finishes airing. Outside of the sequels, I’m probably most excited for LISTENERS and Yesterday wo Utatte. Followed closely by Fuou Keiji: Balance:Unlimited and Otome Game no HametsuAnd man, I just really want LISTENERS and Tamayomi to be good. There’s definitely a special kind of joy in finding a gem within each new season. Although, the line-up seems, understandably, a bit smaller I do believe we’ll be getting some quality anime this spring season. Perhaps I’ll find a new favorite anime! I’m excited to see what they all have to offer!!
