Episode 7: Highlighting the girls’ individual strengths, and they repaired the rocket while giving it a complete makeover. That’s it. That’s the episode. However I will say this: I was surprised that drawing the rocket in the Fuwa’s book didn’t just summon a brand new one, you know the power of imagination~!

Episode 8: The girls traveled to Bones Planet, in search for the Libra Pen. When they arrive, the find the world to be completely made out of bones, and encountered the furry race that lives there. After somewhat awkward first encounter, they are brought to the temple to shelter from the “rain” where they discover the Libra Pen. It was perceived to be a (temporary) replacement for the head-tail that had broke and was currently under repairs.

Although this week’s episode was cute and had some good comedic moments, despite this episode focusing on Elena,  I felt it was really shallow. The only thing we got out of her is her understanding and kind nature, both we are already aware of, and how she has the strength to not be pressured in going against her morales— regardless of what is at stake. This was highlighted when Prunce was pressuring Elena to grab the pen and go instead of actually trying to communicate to the aliens why they needed it. I liked that they did this because it shows us how because of his desperation, Prunce can be a hypocrite when he is fuelled by his own selfish desires.

But Prunce wasn’t the only one who caused problems, Hikaru did as well— and much to my dismay, nobody called her out on it! But in all seriousness, dear god, someone get a hold of this child! She has no sense of danger whatsoever. If this were a horror series, she would be the first to go down because of her boundless curiosity. But what I also didn’t like was how disrespectful she was at the temple. Sure, she was wondering if the “Sacred Bone” was the pen or not, but to have the nerve to climb the statue of their ancestor and guardian spirit? The other girls were a lot more sensible in realizing how they needed to be diplomatic about the approach given the situation at hand. It makes me wonder if they will ever properly address this glaring flaw of hers.

Frankly speaking, the future of this coverage seems rather bleak. It has become even more apparent to me this week that the decision of whether or not I will continue the coverage of this show will depend on the next 2 – 4 episodes. Ideally, I would like to try and reach at least episode 12, since it is usually around then when we see the first boss fight, but it really depends on the amount of substance and whether or not this series it really the right fit for my writing style. It could be this series is one that I am just better off watching than blogging. Anyhow, I am going to try my best and stick through until then.

I wouldnt be surprised if u ended up dropping this series, lol. The same person who wrote Maho Girls is writting this one and frankly, his writting style to me seems to be more on the boring side…atleast to me it is. It’s a lot of world building (granted, which is needed for a series where 2 worlds are being explored) and a lot of taking it slow. Im anxious to see how he handles the very first major boss fight…that will indicate to me how much I will enjoy this series.
Ive always wanted a precure series with a space them and for the longest time, I imagined it would be more adult themed, action packed, exciting and face paced. But this series so far is the complete opposite, lmao.
Honestly, for me, the last good Precure series where I was fully invested every week and couldnt wait for the next episode was Go Princess! And although I enjoyed Hugtto as well, I can see peoples problem with it, but I still would rather that series and all its flaws vs Maho Girls which according to many, had great character development, great world building and a plot that made sense and had very few plot holes. And Kirakira was just an all around fun series to watch egardless of its inconsistencies & childish behavior, lol
Anyway, I guess this time around, its a lil better than Maho Girls if only because I like the theme better. Maho Girls, I stopped watching the lives and subs before half way and only read reviews. This time, Im still watching the lives and reading reviews. But Im not watching the subs (the reviews and clips from Toei Pretty Guardians on youtube are more than enough for me to get the jist) When I stop watching the lives…then we have a problem, lol
Hopefully this series picks up soon

That’s exactly why I’m getting a sense of deja vu. It is a shame because I too really like the space theme, and I liked how they changed up the formulas for the fights, it’s just a matter if it’s enough for me to write about on a weekly basis. I don’t dislike it, so if I do drop the coverage, it’s one I will continue to watch or else hold off to binge once it ends.
I really hope ep 10 – 12 will be the turning point to spice things up, hopefully the first boss will be exciting. They did mention the boss is going to be awakening soon, so maybe he might have something to do with it sooner than later? That would be interesting, since I imagine something is going to have to throw a wrench in their plans of recollecting the pens, otherwise how else will they kill time to rescue the remaining princesses?

See I would argue that there was some interesting dimension in Doggy bringing up how, to them, Both the precures and their enemies could be seen as one in the same if they aren’t mindful and it was satisfying to see Puruns apologize & humble himself. Not to mention Princess Libra being confused/asking where he is at the end was extra effective as a gag.
So far this season seems to be doing ok for me. Granted my last precure series was Go!Princess – because I couldn’t stand the ones between them – so maybe absence makes the heart grow fonder but if nothing else this series gave us our first darker skinned lead character so part of me will be right there for that reason too.

Yeah that’s what I meant by Prunce being a hypocrite (like LOL really dude, stealing it makes you no different than the Notraiders). It was refreshing in a way to see the precures being lumped with their enemies like that, since it goes to show they need to be considerate about what the pens might mean to each native planet. (regardless of how brief they may have been there for)
I agree, taking a breather in between the series does help when the series in between really doesn’t click with you. It also helps that Twinkle Precure definitely has an edge by changing up the formula!

we can say this season unlike others is weird and it still not clear whatever it will turn out to be good or not
