Sometimes I like to posit that I am an anime fan with exquisite tastes and high sensibilities. Then days like today, where I watched ‘That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime’ and enjoyed it, occur and test my sanity. So I must start with that disclaimer: against my better discretion and expectations, I genuinely enjoyed the first episode of ‘Slime’. Which is what I’m calling it because no one controls my life. I didn’t even watch the show because I wasn’t anticipating enjoying it, but I did, so here’s my take on it all!

Slime is another ‘human from another world (ours in particular) ends up in another world’ show. To get into these kinds of shows I tend to need something different than just ‘here’s a human!’. I love alternate universe stories but it can get pretty boring and typical thanks to it being a successful genre in anime. As you know, the more successful anything is the more that genre/movie/media gets overpopulated with monotonous and uninteresting things.

Well, what ‘Slime’ brings to the table is charm. The first episode introduced the main protagonist by showing a character being killed, then a new character introducing themselves and promptly being murdered and reincarnated into the ‘new’ protagonist. This was a fantastic set up for me because it shows that the character is unique, as usual, but for different reasons than I am accustomed to. There is some greater mystery to this slime show’s protagonist and I’m interested in knowing what makes him/them unique. It’s clear even gender isn’t what defines the protagonist and I’m excited by that. Establishing the protagonist’s new abilities by taking into account the things he doesn’t like about dying is especially interesting and I would like to know more about that.

I also really like the humor of the show. The humor has a way of being very subtle and very direct. A good example is when the protagonist dies he asks his younger co-worker to take his hard drive and put it in his bathtub. We see the younger guy do this later in the episode and it’s very funny to watch him do this, but there is a moment of hilarity for just a second when we get a shot of the screen:

Mechesoft Doors MX. Instead of going for a simple brand change, they just made it a synonym of Windows XP. I laughed endlessly over this scene. I love when anime does stuff like this. The rest of the first episode establishes how the slime deals with existing as a slime, then makes friends with a dragon and unlocks ‘Exposition!’ and sight, and then opens the door for the rest of the series. I watched this and knew that despite all of my better judgment: it was time for me to make this show something I blog. For some reason. Because I am trash.

Horrible weeaboo trash.

Possibility of Watching: Guaranteed.

Possibility of Blogging: Yeah I’m garbage and I am here for this.

Don’t worry, I was also surprised that I enjoyed this as much as I did 😂 My most favorite part would be when the protagonist got his first set of skills; the system voicing his acquired skills one by one just based on his dying thoughts got me hooked. And I lost it when he brought up him being died virgin at the age of almost-40 might make him into a great sage, and the system went ‘lol sure why not’ 😂

LMAO you are so right, like “oh god, the pain, I never want to feel this pain again. . . ” PAIN NULLIFICATION like this person is dying and the voice in his head is like a receptionist who has dealt with it a thousand times. Okay sir you’re reincarnating, right, no anal fissures, got it, immunity to tentacles…such a straight faced hilarious idea.

Remember what Kakashi said: Those that would disregard their comrades so easily are even worse than trash. And those who don’t have the decency to respect the memories of their comrades are the worst. Nothing wrong with being trash in loving stuff like this.

Slime was among the first of the isekai webnovels of Shousetsuka ni Narou to make its MC a non-human being.
Since then, there’s been an expansion to magical non-human objects, like one where the MC’s a magical vending machine (Seriously).

The source webnovel ended back in 2015-2016, but it’s still the 3rd most popular title on Narou. I hear the LNs (13 volumes and ongoing) are still covering the WN content.

Slime will have 24 episodes as well, so it’ll be an investment of your time to follow/blog this series.

I was really surprised when I first heard it was going to have 24 episodes, but that’s good considering it has enough content to spread things out without rushing things, hopefully. I’m liking the trend of seeing a lot more 20+ episodes titles this season. It feels like it has been a while.

Surprises me how one of my favorite manga finally gets an adaption…My days of sleepless nights might increase but what’s a few weeks without sleep anyway.
