Eva’s First Impression

Well… I wasn’t expecting the show to start off with super over-powered elementary kids!
Of course rest assure there is a time jump… but they are probably still going to be super op.

The first thing that comes to mind is the premise reminds me a lot of Anohana, the story of the childhood friend who died. Right now, the two things that sets them apart is we witness Asahi’s death, and its circumstances. The rest seems to follow the same classic formula: The main duo have mutual feelings towards each other, two others who are suffering from unrequited love, and two neutrals. When the Asahi dies,Takanori blames Haruto for her death, Nozomi blames herself, Satsuki probably regrets wishing Asahi would die because of her own jealousy, and you know the rest.

Shichisei no Subaru is set in both the real and virtual world of Union (later: Re’Union). It is a free to play MMORPG that is exclusively available to individuals who possess the unique trait known as “Sense”. Players are attributed to one of six senses, Fighter, Shape-Shifter, Dream Mage, Empath, Wizard, Divine Champion, and the game has a perma-death of a sort, where if you are killed in battle, you lose access to the game.

The kids have formed a party called: Subaru. Each member of their team has a unique ‘sense’ from the other, completing the full set that’s available in game. On top of that, their friend Asahi possesses the unique sense of ‘The Prophet’, which if used properly, is the ultimate cheat tool that enables the team to always be a step ahead of the game. We saw this fail when Haruto got ahead of himself, and left Nozomi vulnerable when she was focusing on preparing her spell, he managed to defend her, but because he wasn’t prepared, Asahi ends up taking the shot for him, and gets eliminated from the game.

Or so that’s what was supposed to happen.

Even after dying in the real world due to a Heart Failure, after logging in for the first time in six years, Haruto opens a chest to find Asahi’s avatar sleeping inside, only to wake up as if nothing had happened. Yikes, I have a feeling she doesn’t know that she’s dead yet… That’s gonna be rough for everyone.

I am however a bit suspicious of how her character is uniquely still in game. Was it really a coincidence that she died at the same time she was killed in game? I certainly have my reservations about that, especially with how Pleroma is a game that is litterally obtaining data on its users who have ‘Sense’ traits, and are granting special privileges to those who do well.

Honestly I don’t know how I feel about this show yet. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. I don’t know if I am just being picky or I have seen this kind of formula enough times that I’m just not into it. On the flipside, I also see some great potential that will help set it apart from the abundance of VR-Themed stories. I suppose I will have to give this another episode or two before I make my decision, but so far I am not holding my breath for it.

SAO meets Anohana is a pretty accurate description for this series, I think.
Only other info I could find is that it’s based on an ongoing LN series, currently at 6 volumes.
By the way, were you able to check out Senjuushi/Thousand Noble Musketeers? How did it compare to 100 Sleeping Princes?
I’ve heard the Senjuushi’s source mobage had quite a few big artist names behind it, like mangaka Kinoshita Sakura and illustrator Yone Kazuki.

Yeahhhh I didn’t like Senjuushi either. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but it was different than I thought it would be. It’s hard to compare since I disliked them for different reasons, but either way I won’t be watching either one of them, nor will I be releasing a post on Senjuushi.
