When Capcom shows off cheats for their games, making every viewer want to find a retro arcade and try them out. To be honest, they probably took the cheats out of the remastered versions of the games. At least, I learned something new about how to beat arcade games( well, oldschool ones)

The story follows a boy named Haruo as he plays videogames after school wasting his allowance and he meets Ono, a girl in his class who is rich, pretty and popular( and looks like she does anything but game) playing video games at the arcade and there starts the adventure.

It is pretty entertaining to me, but I feel like the “ 90’s kids” would enjoy this. My definition of a 90’s kids differs from other people definitions. If you are born after 1994, you are not a 90’s kid because you can barely remember stuff. If you can remember stuff from when you 4, 5, or 6, good for you. Doesn’t mean you’re a 90’s kid. Just because you can’t remember all the references from the 90’s doesn’t mean you weren’t a 90’s kid. I am not a 90’s kid, so I don’t know what it was like to live in the 90’s and I’m not going to act like I know.

When we first meet Haruo and Ono, they are playing Street Fighter and Haruo uses a cheap move to beat her because he knew he couldn’t beat her and she was mad. Wasn’t illegal. Then they start following each other around and that’s cute.

And when that couple with obvious anger issues starts harassing Ono after she wins the games, he tries to fight them, but the girlfriends kicks him in the nuts from behind( karma from using underhanded moves before) and they start beating him up. Ono lets him get beat up a little bit and kicks the guy in face and punches the girl in the face, launching them into the token booth. Then the staff accuses the obnoxious pair of trying to steal tokens, meanwhile Ono and Haruo run out of there.

Ono is a very smart girl who knows how to play games with little tricks, like when she was playing the fighting game in the convenience store. She destroyed the barrels in a certain way, she got rid of all her lives, so they could leave when it stopped raining. And Haruo only figured that out later, while they were playing 2 players.

Haruo gave her some lollipops for teaching him and helping him play games and he gets hit by the limo and episode ends. Her face is so cute:

I wanted to talk about the animation. It kinda felt weird. The manga illustrator was interesting. The way the eyes were drawn, and the faces were different than anyone else would have drawn them. Some people hated the animation, but I think it’s okay. I don’t really have a problem with it, it’s a different style!! Which is good for diversity purposes.

Also Ono, doesn’t really speak at all or that much. Maybe I missed a word.

When they mentioned Street Fighter, I just started singing Chun-Li by Nicki Minaj..

“ Plates say Chun-Li, drop the Benz off!!”

    Hi,

I deal in story, story, and more story. I don’t care if the artwork is stick figures, and the soundtrack is composed of three cats howling on somebody’s roof.

    Story.

This anime has some wonderfully funny hooks in it. The video games, are for me, unimportant. What makes the show enjoyable, is two competitors, who have no place to go but to make each, the others’ friend.

These two will teach each other, learn from each other, and eventually depend on each other.

Heck, we might even find that the girl can talk. Episode-1, not a word.

Episode-2 will continue the insanity, and a good time will be had by all !

I was born in 1986 and I can say that I lived that time.
I remember playing Callidacs n Dinosaurs, Street Fighter, Sunset Riders, Fatal Fury 2 and more. Even that has happened to me to find a broken cabinet like the one shown in this episode xD.
This adaptation is a miracle for everything that happened with copyright issues.

I’m so happy for this adaptation, I was one of those who looked forward to it.
