I was a little disappointed at this episode at first, but then everything changed with the last few minutes. First off, I have to say that I absolutely loved the aerial combat this episode. I feel like they spent most of their budget on this fight as the colors and animation itself just looked incredible all around. It was fun to watch, but how the fight ended is what disappointed me.

The show made a big deal to scare us when Being X brought Sioux back again. So, wasn’t it a little disappointing that he died so easily again? And that Tanya came out of the fight with only a few scratches? And that no one actually died in the fight?! I thought Grantz had died but nope he was okay. Everyone was wounded, but no deaths. Ugh.

I mean yes the fight had looked great and all, but the end was result was a little boring. I had expected the fight to last the entire episode but it finished quickly in the first half. It was pretty cool to see Tanya shoot Sioux with the gun his daughter gave him, but still it was too easy. And the fact that everyone survived was boring.

After that everything seemed fine until things took a quick turn in the end when Tanya realized something after hearing the news Visha gave her. Having knowledge of WWII and no one listening to you is probably the worst thing, especially when you’re part of the war. Which is actually confusing to me, because I thought this was an AU WWI? This is all Dunkirk all over again. The Battle of Dunkirk was actually a very important battle in the history of WWII, and I hadn’t actually learned it in high school. I only became aware of the battle because a movie about the Battle of Dunkirk, named Dunkirk, is going to release later this year. I only looked up the battle because I didn’t know what it was, and hearing it was part of WWII I got really interested. Tanya knows exactly what’s going to happen next, and in fact that the war is definitely not over yet. Too bad, the idiots in command won’t listen to her.

The Battle of Dunkirk was a battle that took place between the German, and French and Allies in Dunkirk, France. Basically what happened in this episode was the same in history, where the Republican Army was supposedly defeated, with them surrendering their capital and giving the Empire their victory. However, their navy surrendered, but the Empire thought it was unnecessary to pursue them because they thought they were pretty much doomed, it’d just be a waste of time. That’s the exact same thing that happened with Nazi Germany and the Allied troops. For 3-4 days, the French and British were able to evacuate and fight another day, which is the reason why Tanya had the breakdown in the end because she knows that’s exactly what’s going to happen next. The war will just continue.

Seeing Tanya’s breakdown was interesting for her character. Tanya is the type of person to want things to go her way. She follows the rules only so things go easier for her, but she’s sure to get things done her way. She wants to succeed. She’ll follow rules, but in this case, she knows that the rules are bullshit because the people in charge are bullshit. She knows what’s going to happen, and now the dream of living a peaceful life out of a war is going to die again. But I’m sure Tanya should have figured why would Being X put her in a war where it’s about to end? It’s not dire enough. She should have expected something, something more that Being X could dish out. And this is it, and she’s devastated. That said, if no one actually knows about the Battle of Dunkirk, they’re probably going to think that Tanya was being dramatic for something dumb, or they were just left confused. The reason why she broke down in the end wasn’t explained at all so I can understand if some people didn’t get it. It actually took me awhile to see the resemblance.

Which means, the Empire is going to lose the war, right? I don’t know, they’re kinda merging WWI/II together, but either way, Germany lost both. :p

Knowing what’ll happen next, I wonder if we’ll get another season to show it all because we’re only going to get a huge cliffhanger in the end. And I don’t think I could handle that.
