Why is it hard finding subs for this show? It baffles me. Why?!

Considering how popular Little Witch Academia is, I’d think it’d be easier to find subs for it. Oh my.

It’s finally the day for Akko to start being a witch. She still has Chariot’s staff with her and can’t get over about the previous day. She wakes up excited and perky for the day, imagining how thrilling witch school will be. But just like any other school….it’s boring. Akko and the others hit the books and learn about history, alphabet, and strange concoctions. And they all include listening to the professor lecture and writing notes.

Akko finds herself disappointed, her first day in school not how she had pictured in her head. She makes an outburst about Shining Chariot in the cafeteria, and ace girl Diana comes up to her and they formally meet. Other than Diana Cavendish being the most rich white girl name I’ve ever heard, Diana comes from a long line of witches who are known to everyone in the magic world. She showed her proficiency in knowledge the whole time in class, and she does again this time by saying how no one in the magical world cares about Chariot. Chariot’s been missing for ten years and no one has bothered looking for her or finding out the reason of her disappearance, and claims that no one likes her magic. Akko of course doesn’t like hearing this and talks back at Diana and how much Chariot inspired her. They share a little spout, with Akko making a fool of herself in front of everyone, but it doesn’t get ugly. Instead of grossly teasing her, Diana kind of put Akko down, but with grace.

But even though Akko may not be of witch blood and she doesn’t have any knowledge of magic, she proves her love of all things witches and Chariot by all the trading cards she collected over the years as a child. She even memorized all the spells and descriptions written on the cards, so you know she really does love it. You can tell she wants to try really hard. Yes, she’s immature and over her head, but at least she doesn’t give up.

The rest of the episode is dedicated to the story of the school’s tree. Its health has declined and Ursula-sensei was in charge to check why. Diana and her gals go to the tree and secretly use magic to help the tree get better. But things go haywire when the roots of the tree grow large with little parasites on them. Except the parasites are little butterflies, special ones that only appear once every hundred or so years, and anyone who looks at them fly is filled with a sense of hope. Akko recognizes them from one of her trading cards so she casts the spell with Chariot’s staff, and all is well. The teachers come back to the tree to find Diana and praise her for helping the tree. Diana tries to explain herself, but doesn’t in the end.

Those that have watched the movie and special notice how different Diana is here. In the movie she was a lot more mean and catty towards Akko. Here, she is much softer. Still intimidating and haughty, but not overly mean. I don’t think it was right that in the end she took the credit for Akko’s spell in helping the tree, but we saw that she looked a little guilty when she was walking away. But it’s too late to explain herself now, and considering how silly Akko made herself look, no one would ever believe that Akko was the one that helped the tree. I wonder if we’ll see Ms. Queen Bee Diana later on as the story progresses, but since they’re all only just meeting each other right now, we’ll see a different side to Diana.

This also goes for Lotte and Sucy. In the movie and special, the three of them are really close friends. Right now it’s only the second day they’ve known each other so they’re all still a bit distant from each other. But it was cute seeing them play with Akko’s cards, so that’s one sign of at least an acquaintanceship right now. And hopefully we’ll learn more about Lotte and Sucy too since Akko has been in the spotlight so far.

I mean the subs are out in less than 12 hours on nyaa. I wouldn’t consider that hard to come by.

I say hard because I’m so used to seeing the schedule on Horriblesubs and seeing what time the show would come out and in this case I can’t since they don’t have it and then I just forget. :p

The reason subs are so hard to find is because the official rights holder, Netflix, won’t released subtitled episodes until the first 13 episodes are released. All the subtitled episodes right now being done by fan subbers. Who, of course, take a lot longer to subtitle an episode than an rights holder would.

Oh well that makes much more sense! I didn’t know Netflix had the rights.
