Episode 10

It’s snowing outside, and inside the library it’s quiet for once. Why? Sawako is sick, leaving her three friends to read quietly in the library. But while it initially appears to be relaxing, the silence eventually starts to get to Shiori. She’s a little lonely without her partner in crime.

However the spell is broken soon enough when Sawako starts texting Endou and Shiori. She’s run out of books to read and has nothing to do, so she decides to read some passages from her Japanese literary textbook. Sawako finally calls Shiori to chat, but it’s nonsense as usual and Shiori yells at her to go to bed.

Sawako feels well enough to return to school the following day, and she walks into the library to find Shiori and Sumika are looking at a fashion magazine together. Sumika tells Sawako that they’re trying to guess which books are on the display shelves in the magazine ads, but they’re having difficulty trying to see the small details.

Sawako asks Endou what kind of books a girl should read if she wants a guy to like her, and he gets flustered. He eventually comes up with “Le Petit Prince”, which charms Sumika but fails to impress Sawako and Shiori.

Episode 11

Sawako has an announcement: she’s temporarily giving up reading works of classical literature. Instead she wants to try an idea that several famous authors tried with each other: she wants to exchange letters with Shiori!

Shiori initially has some trouble coming up with what to write, but once she finds her writing groove the words just start flowing out. Shiori starts her letter by complaining about Sawako’s behaviour, but says that she’s gotten used to it now. She adds a few more notes, then ends the letter by thanking Sawako for putting up with her ramblings about books. As she puts her pencil down, Shiori feels satisfied with the letter she wrote.

Then from across the library, Sawako proclaims that she’s giving up with her idea because she can’t think of anything to write. Wtf! Shiori gets so pissed that she snaps her pencil in half. -_-

My thoughts:
The first episode was actually a nice change of pace. Sawako as a character gets on my nerves sometimes, which I’ve mentioned before, so it was nice that she was reduced for much of the episode to text messages.

However the whole “what should a girl read to get a guy to like her?” schtick annoyed me. I know it’s a comedy show, but meh I guess it’s not my kind of humor. Obviously anyone can read whatever the fuck they want, and to hell with what anyone else thinks.

The second episode made me laugh, because I’d be as pissed as Shiori if a friend pulled that move with me. This episode actually served as a nice recap for the series, because Shiori’s thoughts about Sawako flashed back to various moments from throughout the season and so we got to see the progression of the girls’ friendship.

Next week is the last episode. I wonder how this series will finish! Maybe it will be the end of the school year?
