Episode 10

Yay the opening theme is back to normal! Well, if you can call it normal. ^^;  Still an odd song to me but hey different tunes for different people.

This episode was really significant, IMHO, because it answered many of the questions raised throughout the series. For example:

  • Why is Nova always so bland and detached? He’s a  Nothingling, a hollow, shallow being from a planet which has nothing. He’s able to be coerced into helping the evil villian because he has no soul, no morals or ethics to guide his decisions and behaviour. As the Commander-in-Chief puts it, Nova really has nothing to him except his looks.
  • Oh yes, the Space Patrol Galaxy Commander-in-Chief (SPGCC) is an evil Blackholeian. No wonder I got a creepy vibvlcsnap-00003e off him in the last episode; he’s taken over Space Patrol’s HQ.
  • What else? Umm… oh yeah, what is that heart jewel of Luluco’s? It’s an Aflutter Jewel, something created by Luluco’s “meaningless” and “foolish” first love for a pretty boy with no heart.

The Blackholeian explains that he and his race originally travelled across the universe shoplifting things of value. However they eventually reached the point where they had stolen so many things of great value that they started to question whether ordinary things and garbage had value too. When Midori asks why he wanted Ogikubo, the Blackholeian SPGCC says that when all intelligent life reaches a certain technological milestone, it will create its own Ogikubo, which the Blackholeians will then shoplift.

However while Luluco is left a fragile shell after her Aflutter Jewel is stolen, it’s Nova’s careless, ambivalent words to her which literally kill her. He really truly feels nothing for her, and Luluco simply can’t bear it.

After Luluco’s death, the Blackholeian throws Luluco’s Aflutter Jewel to the ground and shatters it, stomping on it for good measure. Midori says what I thought – why would the Blackholeian steal it, only to destroy it? Weird logic.

While the Blackholians have Midori, Chief Over Justice and his assistant locked up, they set up an altar for Luluco. Elsewhere in the universe, Lalaco’s attention shifts to her daughter the moment Luluco’s Aflutter Jewel is broken. Will her parents be able to come to Luluco’s rescue, despite Luluco already being dead?

Episode 11

Luluco’s spirit contemplates her short life, and the little she achieved. She’s got a huge hole in her chest where her Aflutter Jewel used to be. Alone, she wanders what looks like an abandoned, misty Ogikubo, where she comes across someone who looks like Chief Over Justice’s relative. He says he used to be in the Space Patrol too.

Together they sit in front of a fire, and Luluco laments that everything is over. Her fiery companion contradicts her, saying that as long as evil exists, justice will vlcsnap-00007continue to exist as well.

Fire Dude points Luluco towards the exit (turns out they are in Ogikubo Hell), but Luluco hesitates. She wonders what to say to the guy who betrayed her. Suddenly Luluco has an epiphany – Nova never once lied to her or betrayed her. He was always who he was with her! Luluco decides she will not deny her feelings for Nova just because the Blackholeian stole them. Luluco tells Fire Dude that she’s going to leave so she can confess to Nova… and then arrest him. xD   Fire Dude cheers Luluco on and gives her some parting words of advice, and then Luluco runs up a sparkly staircase back to the land of the living.

In the jail cell where Chief Over Justice, Midori and the secretary are mourning Luluco, the latter comes back to life and bursts free from her coffin. It’s confession time!

My thoughts: My favourite part of the first episode was Midori’s exchanges with the Blackholeian. Seriously, her snark is perfect. She calls him stupid and old, he calls Midori and Luluco dumb middleschoolers. Don’t think I missed the underlying criticism in his comments to her either.

The special effects in this episode were neat, namely the distortion effect around the Blackholeian’s head. Very neat!

The second episode was a nice continuation of the first one. I think that this final arc is my favourite, as many secrets are out in the open so it’s very straightforward. I wish Fire Dude had been given a name though. (Maybe that will be revealed in the final episode in a conversation with Chief Over Justice?)

I’m cheering for you Luluco!  Will Nova return Luluco’s feelings in the end?

xD Well I feel silly now. Oh well! I’m not familiar with many of Triggers’ works, so that’d be why I didn’t recognize him. Thanks for letting me know!
