ALL HAIL QUEEN YUZU! Say what you want, but Yuzu proves to us yet again that being a damsel in distress is just not her style. Just moments after Jean made the announcement to initiate the Martial Law, Yuzu knocks him aside and preaches the truth. She encourages the Tops and Commons to come together to fight against, and protect their realm from Academia. Furthermore, she sends a very important message to Yuuya: Use the of Entertainment Dueling to bring everyone together in order to put an end to the riots. Turns out she wasn’t the only one who had that strategy in mind. Jack too had a message to be delivered to Yuuya: Jack wants to see the dueling Yuuya believes in, and if he is trying to accomplish something, do not falter

YGO ARC V Ep 95 Img 0009This is exactly what Yuuya’s struggle has been about in this arc. He keeps on faltering, moving away from his style and what is true to his heart. Part of this has to do with the brutality of the conflicts he has been dragged into, and the way he has rapidly matured in order to adapt to the hostile environment he is in. With that in mind, this is precisely the reason why I am very excited to see how Yuuya’s style evolved. Back in the first season, Yuuya was the clown, the joker who would do all sorts of silly things. Though he had his own insecurity about himself, he always believed strongly in the ways of entertainment duels. Now, for the first time in a long time, we are going to see Yuuya be 110% committed to his heart, and I can’t wait to see what kind of performance he will put on, and how he will not only impress Jack, but his performance resonate with the people.

Sam’s timing to deliver the message to Yuuya was also crucial because he wasn’t just about to listen to Yuzu’s wishes. Instead he went into frantic mode and his mind was buzzing with, ‘MUST SAVE YUZU! MUST SAVE YUZU!’. He needed the message of sticking to his convictions to be hammered through that thick skull of his in order to calm down and realize, Yuzu was right, and now Jack is offering him a golden opportunity to showcase his convictions via broadcast that will not and cannot be ignored by both the Tops and Commons.

Although Jack had been victorious in his last duel, the riots continues, and Yuzu’s message fails to get across because the commons just don’t give a shit about Academia. Shinji and his buddies even turned against Crow all when he was trying to stop them, BECAUSE THEY MIGHT NOT EVEN HAVE A CITY TO FIGHT/FOUGHT FOR WHEN ACADEMIA GOES HAM ON THEM! …Wow… These fucking idiots…

Since there is no stopping the riots, I was expecting to see Yuuya put on a preview show, or at least his friends to. But then Shun comes flying in with the whole team riding his birds like the badass he is, and they pick up Yuuya, Gongenzaka and the kids, and simply fly into the Duel Palace. Shun also got to be the cool big brother he is with Reira, calming him when PTSD came into effect once more. (Poor kid, going through so many episodes in such a short time.)

YGO ARC V Ep 95 Img 0010Perhaps the biggest joke of the episode was the Martial Law itself. Jean initiates it in order to ‘prove’ he has the top authority, but the board decides to finally get off their ass and make themselves the higher authority. And honestly like Reiji, and I am soooooooo done with the board. Reiji took the words right out of my own mouth: “Mere observers have no right to determine the future!” He called them out on all of their bullshit ways, and it was fantastic to see him going all out, mercilessly. It’s clear to me, Reiji just wants to get the fuck out of the Synchro Realm and move on to more pressing matters than to spend anymore time in this stupid city. But before they can do that, Yuzu needs to be brought back to the team, and in order to that, they might as well hit two birds with one stone by having Yuuya perform with Jack, for both learning experience and to calm the storm.

Looking forward to the duel! There will be some outsider interference which should spice it up a bit, but my one hope is to see Yuuya back-off from the Action Cards, and perform without it.

NOTICE: There will be no episode next week due to Ping-Pong Tournament.

Amazing episode with a lot of high moments. If Synchro’s last few episode has the same rough quality as this and 94, it would do the arc a lot of good.
Also, did you notice how the Commons actually killed Sergey? Like, for real killed him?

    1. Eva

Yes, while I didn’t mention it- I most certainly noticed! I was like, “O______O Holy shit, they just murdered Sergey…”

      1. Wilfredo Clear Wilfred

Oh no worries the English dub will have fun censoring it again, but I must be honest, seeing SerGay moving with his dismerbered torso and being killed like that (& that “no signal”) was really disturbing…

  2. Wilfredo Clear Wilfred

Goddamn Monosubs for subbing this late AGAIN, but this episode was the perfect setup to the ultimate rematch of Yuya & Jack (and Yugo is biting bittercourt elsewhere sobbing)!!
First they showed how SerGay was a humanoid beaten to total death by the Commons (yeah and watching more Roger breakdown), and F**KING SHINJI WEBER, his blind hatred for the Tops even led him to 100% ignoring a FAR deadlier threat in the form of Academia, just die and rot in hell MORON!!! Crow was now fully convinced that the whole City should join forces to fight Academia as how Yuzu preached, too bad his comrades ditched him like a traitor 🙁 Yuzu’s & Jack’s “motivation course” for Yuya to play out his duel to make everyone smile was the impetus for Yuya to finally bring out his “entertainment” & of cuz the Yuya-torturing porn hasn’t end yet, but Eva no not playing Action Cards just isn’t Yuya’s style, even Jack used them often! And don’t forget the laughable “Martial Law” enforced by a half-insane Roger and those council geezers REIJI shoved their sorry assholes in a God-tier manner that’s awesome XD Shun too comforting a PTSD-stricken Reira then carry everyone to the duel palace in a badass fashion with his Raidraptors, Sora & Tsukikage not doing much, ENJOY Chojiro just couldn’t get his duel kicking to sooth the rat-brained Commons (yes Yuya vs Jack is the true potion for this situation)… all this to get the ultimate duel of the Synchro arc going!
Next episode, with Synchro arc nearing its end, will the long-hyped “entertainment” actually awed everyone or Roger still playing sneaky tricks again? P.S. Yuzu bulldozing Roger before her sermon delivered was the TRUE golden moment of this episode! (Doubt if YUGO would enjoy this…)

    1. Eva

I don’t mind waiting for MonoSubs, especially considering how consistent they have been for so long, and they are doing this on their own time for free, and I’m grateful for that.
It’s Shinji’s and his buds’ downfall if they fail to acknowledge the greater threat. We’ll have to wait and see if Yuuya VS Jack’s duel will have any impact on them, and but I honestly doubt it due to his stubborn personality. It depends on how the writers want to play it out.
Sure, Action Cards are part of Yuuya’s style, but what I want to see is him NOT RELY on them to get him out of a pinch. I would rather him use them creatively than as bail outs, it would have a more positive impact and highlight his growth as a duelist. :3

      1. Wilfredo Clear Wilfred

I said this before but I can say it again: Bulldozer Yuzu was a boss! And another fact: We should THANK Roger for taking Yuzu with him to watch SerGay vs Jack, (no I don’t mean his revolting off-screen death under the beating of the ComMorons), that gave her the chance to deliver the gospel of Arc V to Yuya AGAIN (why did he neglect it everytime?): Duels for smiles! As for Yuya not using Action Cards, doubt it, he will use Enlightenment Paladin whose effect can retrieve a Spell & his dad’s trademark Smile World against Jack so…

Hello Eva it has been a while!
Yuzu shoving Jean was hilarious as hell, someone posted on twitter gifs of when Yuya tried to push Jean aside(and was restrained) to Yuzu using body slam(it’s super effective!) on Jean, the best part is that the entire City saw it! Now that’s embarrasing!
Not only in YGO, but in most animes, if the girl is made a “damsell in distress” they either doesn’t do nothing or any attempt to be useful is shot down or they make her repeat the dude’s name in a loop, crying for help, but fuck that Yuzu gives the middle finger! She tells Yuya to not focus on her, there are more important things than rescuying her, isn’t scared at all of the baddie, tells said villain why his plan sucks and when she saw the opportunity, she, a tennager, tinnier than the guy, and restrained by handcuffs, “physically overpowered” him.
Queen Yuzu indeed!*gushes about Yuzu like no tomorrow*
Well, while I think Shinji is still unlikeable the Commons have the benefit of doubt that they didn’t see Academia in action, even the “invasion” we had was dealt quick and without incidents, so as far as they know it isn’t a real threat.( I still can’t believe the same guy that voices Shinji also voices Genos, the cinammon roll)
I know Sergey is creepy as hell and almost killed Yuzu but it was really disturbing to know that he was killed like that by the Commons.
I like how Jack is more of mentor figure than just an obstacle to surpass, I wonder if will be him or Tokumatsu to rebuild the Synchro Dimension because let’s be honest, the Senile Council nor Shinji is cut for the job.

    1. Wilfredo Clear Wilfred

Clear proof that Crow has crappy friends unlike in 5D’s 🙁

    2. Eva

      QUEEN YUZU FTW!!!!!
It was definitely disturbing moment, especially how nonchalantly they decided to kill him… . ___ .||||
I’m really hoping Jack will be able to lead the city in a better direction, but I think he was hoping the people would help themselves, but they are kind of going about it the wrong way… >_>|||

  4. Sanokal

Extremely well put, Eva. Hopefully it looks like the next episode may give us some Lancer badassery if Superstar doing a Batman cosplay is any indication.
Jeez, when I said that I hoped Sergey survived the fall I didn’t want THAT to happen. Though…he survived a fall, he could probably take a beating from three Commons.

  5. Brandon

How many episodes do you think the duel will take?
Will their duel one, two, three, or more episodes?
And where do you watch your anime?

  6. Becs

This was an amazing episode! And i think everything up to this point built it up to make it this great! This was the episode where all the Lancers finally all gathered together again to get to the beginning of the semi-conclusion of the series (i say semi because we still have to get to the xyzs and fusion dimension).
Everyone was getting frustrated with the synchro arc because it was really slow in moving along the plot. But some episodes definitely pulled us back in fromt getting bored and even if most of it was slow and kind of annoying at times. This episode made it worth it as it showed the development of ALL the characters! And i do mean ALL!
Excluding Yuya (cos you’ve covered him), Reiji has decided that it’s not worth waiting for people who don’t want to listen to reason, Gongenzaka probably would’ve agreed with saving Yuzu like Yuya at one point but he knows now to trust in his nakama and that they dont always need help (admittedly he has changed least but i do think Gongenzaka has changed), Kurosaki has finally learnt to trust his comrades and Sawatari is finally maturing and not behaving like an immature brat!
I will say Jack is a bit of a asshole for not maybe guessing that something was wrong with Yuya in that last match considering that it did differ from his previous match… In fairness he didn’t know about Roger putting that device in his helmet or that Yuya wasn’t in control. But still, it’s hard to really see Jack in a completely positive light because he’s hardly ever straight with what he means so he is kind of dicking about with his words…
But yes! All hail Entertainment Queen Yuzu! She knows whats more important! She won’t allow Roger to spew more bullshit! I love how she cares more about others than herself, Yuya’s safety and assurance is far more important to her!
Whoever says she’s a damsel can KISS MY CARDS!!!

    1. Wilfredo Clear Wilfred

I don’t get why you hate Jack so much you literally wanted his head beheaded as if he’s a despicable villain, that should apply to those shameless Council oldies, Roger and of course SHINJI WEBER & his retarded minions, but YUZU is a true queen or even better suited to be the protagonist than Yuya will ever be!

    2. Eva

I think it’s a bit unfair to say Jack is an asshole because he didn’t notice Yuuya’s pain and agony during his match. You have to remember, Jack only met Yuuya ONCE in person. ONCE. He doesn’t know anything about Yuuya, nor should you really expect him to. Crow is the only one who spent the most time with him besides ENJOY~ to actually at least be considered an acquaintance with him- which is why I was initially frustrated with Crow’s slow reaction during their duel.
While the Synchro Arc was frustrating, I actually enjoyed it quite a bit, but only because how we were rewarded for the bumpy ride with great story and character development by the end of it. I never considered it a boring arc, but it certainly drew out a lot of emotions hahahaha! XD That said, I won’t be missing it, LOL!

      1. Becs

I acknowledge that Jack is a good person but he isn’t exactly straight or clear in what he says, you do kind of have to read between the lines which for me kind of pushes it. I can acknowledge that he is a great duelist and teaches Yuya some very important stuff but his manner does rub me the wrong way sometimes. I agree, with you that yeah he only met Yuya once but he did watch all of Yuya’s matches and it is fair to say that he had no idea about Roger causing Yuya’s change i didnt deny that and i’m NOT calling him an asshole for that. I’m calling him an asshole for not giving Yuya the benefit of the doubt especially since he was pleased with Yuya from the match before! It’s kind of weird to not assume something is wrong when someone’s attitude does a complete 180 in the duel after, especially with an opponent who if i compare Crow with Shinji is less vicious!
And i DONT want to behead him wilfredo! Despite what you may think i actually dislike his character here less than in 5ds (only because he was so obsessed with being the best in 5ds and lets be honest, his actions at the beginning werent exactly golden! But he did get better so dont go thinking i hated him then)… Jack never was one of my favourite but he is so blunt and over the top sometimes that i want to bang my head against a door. I see the good just as much as i see the bad! Jack is one of those characters that both frustrates me and makes me love him at times, those are the kind of characters that actually make me interested in a series.
So maybe asshole is the wrong word here, but Jack is kind of abrasive with his words and while they may be true i certainly dont think he’s right in saying them like that sometimes.
So basically dont hate me, because i have mixed feelings of annoyance and admiration for Jack. I get that some people dont mind it, it just always bothered me even in 5ds so its just mostly Jack’s character that bugs me a bit. I have the right to my opinion!
And yeah Eva, i agree that this was a brilliant arc with all the character development we got. No episode is boring for me in this series, i even enjoyed that quiz duel that was in the earlier episodes.
We can look forward to the conclusion of YuyavsJack with excitement! XX

        1. Eva

No worries~ I don’t hate you and it certainly was not my intention to change your opinion! Rather, I was more curious why you felt that way (since asshole is a strong word!) regardless of the difference of opinions. :3 And I can’t tell you how many occasions I could have used different words to describe things hahahaha! So don’t worry about it~

          1. Becs

yeah, cool! i honestly couldn’t think of a lesser word that conveyed my annoyance at his actions sometimes so i can see why you might think i’m judging Jack too harshly. Besides i only said he was ‘a bit’ of an asshole, not a complete one!! So i am aware that he has his good points like when he encouraged Reira to do his best, that was awesome!
But let’s both continue watching the series and enjoying it! Even if our opinions differ slightly i enjoy reading your posts because sometimes you notice something i didn’t when watching it, or you have a different take on things that i find interesting. I doubt my comments have a lot of effect on your opinion like yours does mine, but thank you for these posts anyway!

            1. Eva

I always welcome different opinions! :3 Opens up to various discussions or debates!
(So as long as they aren’t bashing/trolls/flaming)
I am really going to miss ARC V when it’s finally over, it is such a great series. The next one is going to have a real tough time topping this one.

To be honest, I never expected a dark turn like killing Sergey off-screen like that. I can’t say I feel 100% bad for him since he did try to kill off Yuzu plus he was an insane criminal before but I can’t after being turned into a Cyborg like that it’s a bit sad.
I absolutely loved Yuzu’s moment not only for pushing Jean and warning people, but for trying to help Yuya in the best way she can as well as say it’s best to try to stop the riot going on now than be concern for her.
I also loved that Reiji basically called out the councilmen of them only sticking to the winning side and that they are so important where pretty much Jack or Tokamatsu could be better influences than them.
Lastly, in my opinion it would be pretty dumb not considering Yuzu a Lancer with all she benefited.

  8. exof954

No offense, but I’m kinda glad Sergey’s dead. He was pretty gimmicky these last few episodes, and now that he’s gone IT’S TIME FOR THE REMATCH OF THE CENTURYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!! JACK! VS! YUYAAAA!!!
Really hoping the two will put on a good show- better than the semifinals with Crow at the very least. That was awful.
And then Reiji. REEIIIIIJIIIIIIIII!!!! Dang, that guy is fricking nuts. He took down how many Mirror Forces, D-Prisons, and Gravity Binds with that two-card combo? That’s a nasty-ass backrow if I ever saw one.
And then when he gave those Senator dudes a well-needed talking to. Reiji is just as pissed off as I am over the absurdly elongated Synchro arc. Just take Jack, Crow, Melissa and those three kids out of the city and let the dimension be carpetbombed by a thousand Flame Wingmans.
Still, seeing how the whole city calmed down when Jack was dueling, if Yuya has any chance of turning this Titanic around it’s by dueling the King. HYYYYPPE for next week!

    1. Risanai

      But what about ENJOY?
He’s pretty goofy but he’s one of the few sane people around.

      1. exof954

Ah, true true. Totally forgot about him! 🙁 And I should probably add in his subordinates too…
        FORGIVE ME, ENJOY-SAN!!!

  9. 75chaosflare

Unfortunately because of a ping pong tournament the episode was postponed for next week.

    1. Eva

Yup I am aware, Monosubs announced it earlier today. I retweeted their update on twitter :3 I’ll update the post now.

  10. TS

Tbh, I’m pretty pissed at how most of the Synchro arc was all building up towards “Yuya must understand he can’t solve everything with egao and cardgames”, and now we’re supposed to root for him and Jack solving everything with egao and cardgames.
I honestly can’t stand ARC-V Jack, he’s annoying and insufferable when they try to present him as some sort of wise master. It’s also so goddamn annoying how the writers seem to be so schizophrenic with the whole Commons vs Tops issue. First, the Commons are poor victims. Then, they’re just bad as their oppressors and believe in their same classist ideology. But then they don’t and just want a better life. But then, they can’t because Academia (even if Academia has already left).
Like, the encounter with Crow was ridiculous. It was the best moment to have Shinji say “Well, and after we’ve fought this Academia of yours, what? Do you just expect us to go back to our shitty lives, let society return to what it was before, with thet Tops lording over us from their glass houses while we starve?”, because THAT WAS THE PERFECT MOMENT. What would Crow have replied? Instead no, they just have him go all “WELL WHO CARES IF OUR HOME GETS DESTROYED DOWN WITH THE TOPS LOLOLOL”.
Also, please, please, PLEASE. ENOUGH WITH THE FUCKING EGAO AND SOUL AND BONDS AND SHIT. USE DIFFERENT WORDS. EXPAND YOUR VOCABULARY.
Sigh. At least, Reiji was absolutely perfect. He’s still da besto.
