Is… is Fumitan really dead? Dear god this episode made my heart hurt so much.
The production team did a fantastic job with the process of the build up to the breaking point. With Tekkadan, Kudelia and Fumitan caught in the middle of this volatile situation, it was increasingly nerve-wracking to watch. Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans Ep 16 Img 0003The nailed the atmosphere, they made it feel as if I were there for a brief moment. I didn’t realize that until the sound of the protests in the background spooked me, sounding as if they were taking place just outside of my door. It was scary to watch, not because of the protesters, but because of what they were unknowingly walking into. The union leaders were hoping to have peaceful negotiations, and were counting on Savarin to do so. They knew they would be doomed if they were first to initiate. But Gjallarhorn had no intentions to cooperate, let alone open negotiations, and set up a fake explosion to make it look as though the protesters were the ones who did it. The most disguising part followed, the army massacring the protesters. It was so horrific. It is absolutely disgusting how this kind of action is justified, regardless of the protesters having been armed- they probably would’ve found a reason to still do it even if they weren’t. Kudelia by some god given miracle survived despite being caught up in the mess.

But the danger had not passed just yet. It provided the opportunity for the assassins to take her down while the media turns their focus onto her (funny how they didn’t recognize her when the union did, you’d think the media would be on top of this, and at least have an idea who she is…- BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, CAN I JUST SAY HOW FUCKED UP THEY ARE? THEY FILM THE ENTIRE MASSACRE, UNFAZED. WHAT. THE. ACTUAL. FUCK?) Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans Ep 16 Img 0018But back on topic… Fumitan made her resolve, and took the bullet for her. It has been a while since I have been so uncertain about a character death like this in a long time. It looks like she’s dead, but she doesn’t feel like she is… Maybe it’s my subconscious denial, I’m not sure. But either way, it fucking hurts. Fumitan always hated Kudelia’s eyes because they reminded her of hope. Kudelia surprised her, being able to stay shining so bright after all these years, devoted to the fight for the Martian’s right to a better and free life.

Like dominoes tumbling down, the unrest continues into the other colony ports. Now Kudelia and Tekkadan have to figure out how and what are they going to do now, since they are not only stuck there due to the space port being closed down by Gjhallarhorn orders and it is dangerous for them to be there. Furthermore, the Arianrhod Fleet (an elite unit who protects the Earth Sphere) will be coming in to address the unrest in the colonies.

Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans Ep 16 Img 0034If that wasn’t ominous enough, Teiwaz’s leader McMurdo calls up Sponsor Gordon, to tell him Kudelia is under their protection and he knows of his intentions. He advises him against killing her, telling him she isn’t some small spark that will be snuffed out. If she gets out safely, he makes an offer of forming an alliance with him. What is happening is exactly what McMurdo expected, a big war for revolution is starting- and next week, Kudelia will be making a decision, and it will likely reflect on how she decides what her next move will be, and her commitment to what is now unraveling.

On the extra note, it looks like Akihiro may have had the Alaya-Vijnana system installed to pilot the new mobile suit. I have also read we might be in for a second season in the future, but there has been no official announcements from Sunrise as of yet. I wouldn’t be surprise if there were to be one, considering the subject and the type of story this series has.
