This show really has two big strikes coming from it before you even turn it on. First of all, it’s not subtitled, so that alienates a lot of people, but also because it’s a show meant to sell toys to little girls. That being said…it’s still a very cute show. I’m probably one of the few people in this country watching it, then again, that seems to happen with me regardless of if the show was made out of the US or not. So it’s kind of par for the course here.

Oh well, let’s get into episode 11.

So Christmas is coming up and Kokoro bought a bunch of chocolate at her favorite store. Unfortunately mogutan was a fat fuck and ate it all.

Goddamn it Mogutan. You really ARE why we can't have nice things.

Kokoro then has to go out and buy some more. She goes to buy some from the family owned shop she likes, however the grandma who owns it hurts herself so she’s forced to go to a bigger score that two guys who look like they’re cosplaying the blues brothers are trying to strum up business at.

okay, so the blues brothers mixed with Pulp fiction and Kamina glasses.

Kokoro decides to buy some of their things. Unfortunately when she gets home she realizes that they basically have nothing inside them and were a rip off.

The fuck? how do you package ONE chip in a potato chip bag?
The fuck? how do you package ONE chip in a potato chip bag?

going back to the other store they see another cocotama who happens to be the grandmother’s. He’s the spirit of…I think the shop? I didn’t really get what he was from.

Whatever. ...this thing.
Whatever. …this thing.

He talks about how the shop used to be really popular but now that she’s old and does stuff the old fashioned way, it’s not anymore and she’s thinking of closing the shop. The group tells him that they’ll help.

Eventually he sees a bunch of old cooking tables that are used to make..some sort of pancake and decide to use those to attract customers. It works and everyone begins coming back to her store, including the guys stealing all the business. They pull an Anton Ego from Ratatouille and realize it’s good and leave her alone.

I swear, I was half expecting him to have a flashback of his childhood in the Japanese countryside

The cocotama thanks them for their help even though the Cocotamas didn’t…well…DO anything, but he thanks them anyway. As a reward they get some free candy. Which Mogutan eats, because, once again, he is indeed, a fat fuck.

And that’s where the episode ends.

This episode…certainly exists. I mean, it doesn’t really give any kind of development other than the fact that now we know that other people besides Kokoro’s family can have a Cocotama. The resolution didn’t amount to much more than, “The competition is a bunch of assholes and we thought of a way to help us.” (scratches head) It’s hard to review this episode because there’s not much to it. There’s a lot of jokes in it about Mogutan wanting to eat. That’s REALLY prevalent in this episode.

This. This like five times.
This. This like five times.

Not a whole lot happened in this episode. The shop was failing…and now it’s not. There’s really your episode. There wasn’t even really a whole lot DONE to resolve this issue. All the cocotama’s magic did was knock a towel off some old tables. That’s literally all the magic did in this episode. This is one of those episodes that pretty much would have played out the same way with or without the Cocotamas involvement. It’s almost as if they didn’t need to be there as they didn’t really directly affect anything.

I’m not saying this is a BAD episode it’s just……it feels unnecessary almost as if it was some sort of filler. As I said before, all it did was introduce the concept that other people can have cocotamas. So. Um… There you go. There’s the episode. If you didn’t watch it this week, don’t worry. You didn’t miss much.

Episode 4.5/10
