Aoharu x Kikanjuu Episode 2: Didn’t I Tell You I Don’t Need Friends?

Well, what an asshole.

I can understand having trust issues. But how can you just push away people and treat them like dirt just because you don’t want to share your friend? This is actually pretty similar to what happened in another show I was covering last season (*glances at Mikagura Gakuen*). Like…yes, I get it. Being betrayed by people you thought were friends hurts. Really bad. But you can’t just close yourself off from people for the rest of your life. And if Yukimura really trusted Masamune, I’m sure he’d know that Masamune would never bring in someone from the team that would hurt him. Masamune was the one that helped Yukimura out in school and they became friends, so Masamune understands his friend’s feelings. I mean I’m glad that they made up in the end, but most of the episode I was really pissed at Yukimura. I don’t know if I’ll like him soon, but I’m just glad this drama ended with this episode or else things would have been frustrating if they continued.

Most of this episode was centered around this drama, but we did get a look into the survival matches. They didn’t really go into much detail about them but from what we saw there are a number of rounds with something different in each round. We watched Toy Gun Gun play a capture the flag round against this awful team that harassed a beginner group. One rule we learned from these battles is that when a player is hit by a bullet, they’re supposed to say “Hit!” out loud. I think just from one hit that knocks them down. These are the rules. You say hit when you’re actually hit. Of course, there are assholes that don’t follow that rule, and really anyone can break that rule and cheat. And I can see this being a problem later on. Things would be much easier if this were laser tag and their vests would make a sound or something that would make it clear they were hit, or else anyone can just cheat.

But people take these games seriously. This was Hotaru’s first survival game, and I’m surprised she managed to do so well. Being abandoned by Yukimura and surrounded by the Greyhound team, she managed to dodge all the bullets as she is very athletic, as we’ve seen before. Of course her sense of justice kicked in with this team as she hated how the guys broke the say hit rules and surrounded a beginner girl in their previous match. It’s actually a little funny when Hotaru mentioned killing the dude with red hair because lol these are BB bullets. You can’t kill anyone, please chill. But I’m surprised how understanding Hotaru was with Yukimura. I thought she would have been a little pissed at Yukimura for what he did, but she even said that she wanted to stay in the team even more, because if she left, then Yukimura would have done the same to another player that would join. Though I do love how she kept to herself that it would be a good idea to beat him into shape. I love her.

So the team had some differences that were made up in the end. To show his acceptance of her, Yukimura gives Hotaru a copy of his serialized manga. She gladly accepts it and starts reading it, just to realize that he’s an ero-manga artist and she throws it away. Yukimura even mentioned before that he sometimes goes into the women’s bathroom to fantasize for his work………………….so that’s creepy. I think he’s the real Pervert-kun here.

Of course Hotaru’s secret is still kept. She’s only keeping her secret so she can pay off her debt. I saw a couple mention last week that Hotaru is transgendered. Well…uh, no. She identifies as female. She says this repeatedly in this episode, and even in the first episode. So I don’t know where people got that she’s trans. She gets mistaken as a boy all the time, but she’s a girl. She probably only dresses in boy’s clothes because it probably makes her more comfortable, or simply because she just wants to, but she refers to herself as female, so she’s female. Also, she goes into the girl’s restroom, so there’s that too.
