If future me would have told myself that I would not only be watching Tribe Cool Crew, but I would be covering it past episode 20, I would have laughed at myself. But, here I am, and honestly, this is still one of the consistently good shows I’ve been covering since last season. So before I begin, thanks for that Tribe Cool Crew.

Enough of that, what happens in this episode? Well i’ll tell you. Because that’s what I’m here to do.

So the episode starts immediately up with a talent scout catching up to Kanon, having tracked her down having seen her perform as Rhythm.

As Strong Bad would say "Gotta have blue hair" Jesus. Did I just make a Homestar reference? What is this, 2005?

He gives her his business card (don’t worry that’s important later) and offers her a contract as an idol. He asks her to talk it over with her parents and heads off.

She talks to the rest of her dance squad about it and they verify that yes, he is indeed a real scout for a very well known company. The only problem is however, Kanon’s mother has no idea that she dances as she’s kept this a secret from her for the entire series.

Kanon tries to tell her, but keeps losing her nerve. Eventually however her mother finds the business card from the agency and discovers what Kanon’s been up to. (see, told you that card was important)

She of course has the standard parent tv show movie reaction of “How could you do this to me! You can’t dance anymore! Dancing is terrible!”

And that’s when Kevin Bacon comes in and dances for her and shows her that dancing is all right.

kevin bacon

(On an interesting side note, It only takes 4 to connect Kanon’s voice actress to Kevin Bacon if you were to play “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon”

Unfortunately that’s only the version in my dreams.

What actually happens is that after a while Kanon not showing up to practice they get worried and assume that the worst happened with her parents.

Then something very interesting happens. Yozuru does some research and finds out that Kanon’s mom actually used to be an idol. Um…apparently a goddamn HOT idol.

DAYMN!

She then however met Kanon’s dad and got married, getting out of the idol game. With this knowledge and the hopes they can convince her mom to let her dance, they head out.

Meanwhile, the father finds out from the mother that she dances, and….he’s actually okay with it. He doesn’t seem to mind. In fact, he seems relieved that she is doing something she likes. But of course he won’t tell his wife…because…um..not sure exactly.

So the gang shows up on her doorstep, and after introducing themselves, Yozuru proceeds to embarrass the crap out of her with memorabilia from her idol days.

After the mother basically refusing to listen to anything for a while, Kanon finally tells her how much she likes dancing and begs her not to take it away from her. Then when everyone from her sister to her father take her side, the mother has no choice but to relent and Kanon can dance again.

Finally, Kanon gets rid of her Rhythm mask, symbolizing that she doesn’t need to keep her dancing a secret anymore, and that’s where the episode ends.

This episode while not continuing the Dance Road plot, was honestly quite a good one. I really liked the fact that they finally resolved the parents not knowing story side plot and they did it in a way that was actually taken very seriously and was entertaining.

Seeing that her mother was not just a strict boring lady for no reason, but finding out that it was because she didn’t want her daughter to have the scandalous life that she had actually very interesting and not what I expected at all.

And honestly, it was hilarious seeing her freak out at all the Idol stuff.

It’s really refreshing to see other sides of characters you don’t normally see. And from a side character no less. I’m a sucker for minor characters having large development so this really was something I was happy to see.

The thing about this series is that when there’s filler episodes, they’re usually at least fun and entertaining. Things happen in it where I can at least enjoy it, knowing that they’re only one episode long and we’ll get back to the plot shortly. On top of that, I like the main cast so there’s nothing painful.

All in all, fun episode albeit I got pissed at Kanon some of the time for having no balls. Still, I’d recommend it.

Episode 7.5/10
