Uhhh okay. Where do I begin? That was a damn disturbing episode, mainly because most of the girls whom we have met are… bears. OKAY THEN. That makes us question just how big of the population are bears, and whether or not some of the girls within the Wall of Severance turn into bears. It was weird because of two things: first, Konomi was going on how Mitsuko was hers alone, yadiyadiyadi typical possessive girl who wanted to kill off the one she loves’ girl. But then it turns out, Mitsuko is also a bear. Sooooooo…. what the hell is going on?
As I predicted, it looks like there will indeed be a pattern as regardless of the number of kills. Sexy Life for the second time acted in favors for the bears (as he is a bear himself). Another thing that I am lost about… is how Lulu and Ginko were doing their uh stuff, while Kureha was dealing with Konomi? This whole “Yuri” moment is similar to what we saw in Mawaru Penguindrum with the Princess of the Crystal. The difference between the two is that Shouma and Kanba remembered their encounter with the Princess of the Crystal where as Kureha in this series does not. So it is a very bizarre scene making it even more difficult to understand what exactly are they doing, or if they really are doing anything at all. On top of that, when we saw Kureha fall from the edge again, Ginko and Lulu weren’t the ones she was facing. Instead it was Konomi so that is why I am lost about where Ginko and Lulu were and how their “Yuri moment” had happened.
Yet amongst that confusion it was revealed together that their “moment” can be interrupted by an outsider. When Mitsuko killed Konomi, Kureha snapped out of it and was conscious and standing. So yeah, it’s not something to try and make sense of right now, but at least it’s something to point out and hopefully remember in the future.
After taking a break from writing the entry, I remembered what I had suggested last week, the Bears being Sinners. And the more I think about it, the more it seems to make sense to me. There were a lot of elements that stood out to me today that made me think about the Seven Deadly Sins as well as the Virtues. We witnessed Lulu’s Gluttony, Ginko’s Lust, Mitsuko’s Greed, Konomi’s Envy followed by Wrath. The bears are without a doubt sinners or a sort, but while I know i should have expected it, it turns out that there are many bears lurking within the Wall of Severance. So it begs the question of whether or not Bears are born when a “human” becomes a sinner, or they are simply just Bears that succeeded infiltrating the human territory.
Another thing that I have come to notice is that all the bears we have met so far all have their last name starting with “Yuri”. We will have to wait and see whether or not that is supposed to indicate that they are Bears as according to the character list, there are no more characters with their surname starting with “Yuri”
The Invisible Storm was brought up again, revealing that the bear Mitsuko, knows that it is coming. This makes things very complicated because now you see Bears shoot down their own kind for the sake of protecting their prey. We also learned the the Invisible don’t “taste” nice and there are only a few specially excluded individuals that taste ravishing. Sumika was unfortunately one of the prey that was inevitably killed. (Frankly I am not entirely sure whether or not she’s actually dead, but it will clear up in the future, but damn if she really is dead- that just takes the Bear Assaults to a whole new level).
At this point I think that most if not all the episodes, I will end up tuning it. Whether or not I will have the will to cover it, that will be a different story. For now, I can’t guarantee that I will be covering this show till the very end, but I will at least give a shot.
