Out of all the shows I review, this one is definitely the hardest to recap. It’s not a bad show so I can’t yell about it, and there’s no particular events that happen to make  big deal of. It’s just sort of a pleasant show which gives you a lot of details, but doesn’t necessarily give you a lot of plot. The insight is great and while there may be a BIT too many characters, some of them are pretty cool (even though others are annoying)

Okay, enough procrastinating, here we go.

So the episode picks up where we left off where Endou had dropped out of supervising Episode 8 because he got whiny that they said they were going to use CGI for the explosion instead of standard animation. Also because no one told the guy from episode 9, now there’s a problem. So Miyamori (the main girl) does eventually go to the boss and explain what happened.

To be fair, The only reason why there was a problem is because Endou and the guy from 3d were having a dick waving contest.

They try to reconcile with Endou but they can’t as he went home sulking and refuses to talk to anyone. (seriously if it’s ANYONE’S fault it’s his. The only thing the dude with the mohawk didn’t do was tell the boss sooner.)

Meanwhile the director has escaped from his prison to watch another part of production because he has the attention span of a gnat.

How this guy got to be a director i'll never know
How this guy got to be a director i’ll never know

However after everyone catches him on his lazy shit, he feels bad and actually gets to work.

In the middle of all this, the voice actor girl is in a bit of a funk because she didn’t hear anything back from the anime company, but her old voice actor teacher shows up and tells her she should come see her play rehearsal.

So uh... an all female cast of a contemporary version of "Waiting for Godot". Um..can't say I expected that.

She gets fired up again about voice acting and says how she’ll do better next time. (good because this is the character I care about most in this show)

Meanwhile, Miyamori gets some tickets to an old anime exhibit and gives some to Endou’s wife. Endou shows up as does the 3d animator.

they then bond over the old anime that both got them interested in the anime field.

Once again, staring at anime paraphernalia has saved the day!

Endou gets out of his funk and comes back to work and begins drawing again. He finishes and everything is okay. Hooray.

End of Episode.

So..here’s the thing. I’m actually becoming less and less interested in this crew that’s working on Exodus. They’re whiny, lazy, stupid, bitchy, or sarcastic. (most of them). I can’t say that i’m very invested on a lot of them anymore. Endou basically acted like a big baby, the director is a joke, half the people who work there have no interpersonal skills, and overall it seems like a slipshod operation.

I’m actually finding myself becoming more and more interested in the Voice actor girl’s plight. To me, she’s the one that has the largest obstacles to overcome, and while everyone else sort of has their foot in the door, it’s been over 2 years and she’s still struggling her hardest to get first role.

To me, this scene is far more interesting than anything happening in Exodus.

I have basically lost all interest in Miyamori. I don’t care if she “doesn’t know what she really wants”. It’s not nearly as interesting as the voice actor girl.

In short, How about we drop Miyamori off the main ticket and give it to this chick. Because honestly, I don’t like her, and I think her role is done. Let’s move on.

And i’m also done watching professionals who work there acting like spoiled babies.

Episode 5/10

Huh…I guess I DID manage to find some stuff to bitch about in this show. Go me!

Candy and a whip. Well I guess whatever floats your boat.

Same, I care more about the VA now! Most of the people in the production studio are struggling by their own fault. The Director is fucking lazy. Endou was a bitch until the end of this episode. That mohawk guy is lazy. Etc. I do want to see how the VA girl does in the future though.

As an animator (however unworthy of the title I may be), I also find most of the production staff in charge of Exodus to be very irresponsible and childish. I mean there’s being unprofessional as in wearing pajama pants to the office or working on SFX while resting your feet ontop of your desk cue bizarre sitting position …but then there’s the kind of unprofessional that seriously damages the project workflow and keeps everyone else from completing their tasks on time. This is the thing that causes all-nighters, people!!! I’d say ‘poor Endou-san’ right about now, but he caused a lot of his own problems.

On the other side of things, I too like the voice actor Zuka-chan. And not just because her nickname starts with an oddly unfeminine Z! She has a dream. A goal. She’s working as best she can to reach it and that makes me want to root for her and watch her succeed. Miyamori on the other hand…she’s kind of just floundering around, wondering what she ‘wants to do in life’ while already having a sturdy job that she should be putting more effort into. Not fun or interesting at all.
