This episode gave me so many FEELS ;~;
Despite the last episode ending in the middle of a fierce battle, this episode was packed with a lot of scenes regarding personal perceptions, feelings, and emotions. Of course, it wasn’t laid on thick in the beginning but as the episode progressed, I found myself in tears. Granted, I might have been the only one with this sort of reaction because I’m kind of a sap.

Picking up from last weeks episode, Toka takes a bite out of Kaneki’s shoulder to regain her health and display her complete ghoul form. In her human appearance, Toka is very calm, collected, and a bit tsundere. However, when she unleashed the full power of her ghoul form, you could tell that she was merciless, more reckless and downright ruthless. Within seconds, she starts to rip Tsukiyama to shreds but their power is about equal –  he doesn’t go down that easily.

In the mist of battle, after being thrown from the top floor of the cathedral, Tsukiyama attempts at taking a bite of Kimi. I’m pretty sure he was starting to feel like Toka had an unfair advantage, but he was stopped by Nishiki. Nishiki looked TERRIBLE but he stood his ground giving Toka an opportunity to get an unguarded attack on Tsukiyama, leading to his demise. I say this, but you can’t be too sure with this show. I though Nishiki would be dead by now because he spent most of his screen time being, literally, ripped apart and beaten to a bloody pulp. I’m not sure how HE survived.

ANYWAY – Toka warns Nishiki that she’s going to kill Kimi because she’s aware of everyone’s ghoul background and, yet again, he stands guard which get him punctured by her kagune (Yes, He’s STILL alive somehow lol). When Kimi’s blindfold falls, she gets a glimpse at Toka’s full form & exclaims, “So pretty!” to which Toka responds, “What does that mean?” and jets off. This is FEELS train Part 1 & 2. I got extremely emotional over how Nishiki seemed to be such a dick in every episode, but these past few he’s sacrificed HIS LIFE for Kimi. Not once did he give up when someone crossed her path, her stood up and took whatever damage was directed at her. In the mist of that, Kaneki was attempting to talk Toak down by comparing Nishiki’s relationship to Kaneki/Hide and then to Toka/Yoriko. I didn’t expect to feel so attached to them once their bonds were established. Then for Toka to react to a compliment with such shock kin of touched me on a personal level, especially when she’s parched on the roof asking herself, “How am I pretty?

After the Church Incident
This can be kept kind of short and sweet.

  • Nishiki came to work for Anteiku. He was offer a guilt-free ghoul life by Yoshimura.
  • Hide is still around but his character is kind of irrelevant right now.
  • Toka didn’t return to work after that day.
  • Hinami is struggling with being separated from her father a bit worse than before.

Hinami’s mother, Ryoko, tells Kaneki that Dr.Fuegishi used to be involved with some shady business in the 13th Ward prior to their relationship, but he turned his life around once Hinami was born. He’d spent his time helping in anyway he can, especially amongst humans.

Back at his office, Dr.Fueguchi is finishing up his “business” with the man who (for every episode prior) wore a white mask & matching suit, Yamori. Dr. Fueguchi hands over the newly crafted wrench and asks Yamori to never visit him again. Yamori calls hims  flunky to humans and flings him out of the building to be faced with none other than the box carriers, Mako & Amon. The doves identify Yamori to be the 13th ward’s Jason.

What’s in the box, what’s in the box, WHAT’S IN THE BOX?!

When the box carriers open up their silver suitcases, electrified kagune pop out (which Mako calls his “quinque”). Mako’s weapon is very similar to a closed umbrella covered in demon guts or something and Amon’s a bit more cylindrical.

You can’t unveil concealed weapons with out an epic battle! Yamori is quite fast, so quick that at times, it seems like he can read their moves because he appears directly behind them. Aware of his ability and virtually untouchable, he breaks Mako’s quinque. Not sure what his custom wrench is for yet, but he does use it in his defense again them (maybe) as a way to block the electrical current of their weapons.

FEELS train Part 3: Once the battle is over and Yamori darts off, basically laughing at Mako & Amon, they turn their attention to Dr. Fueguchi. With his last bit of strength, Fueguchi unleashes his kagune to fight but he has no chance – He’s decapitated. Simultaneously, Hinami and Ryoko say, “Let’s wait together until dad comes to get us,” at the very moment he is murdered. I was so crushed. After Fueguchi is killed, Mako looks over his body and says, “We can use this”, which I’m gonna assume is direct correlation to their box weapons – they harvest the remains of ghouls and use their own powers against them. SICK.

While shopping for books, Hinami and Ryoko are faced with the CCG. Ryoko encourages Hinami to go back home with her but when she picks up the scent of her father nearby, she takes off running to find him. The scent leads her to Mako & Amon, cornered in an alley. Ry0ko shields herself and Hinami to tell her to go back to Anteiku & hug. Of course, Hinami resists but she leaves. I have to admit that I got my feelings hurt a bit when Mako said, “Is that supposed to be Mother-Daughter love? That disgusts me”. It was totally out of line and disrespectful.

I borderline cried because, after brutally killing a father and husband with evidence to prove it on your person – to completely degrade and belittle them on top of it was absolutely inhuman. There was no regard for their feelings or pain; it was extremely hurtful and quite heartless. I actually cried. I feel really attached to Hinami’s character and the thought of her being orphaned scares me.

How did you like this episode? Do you think Ryoko is gonna make it through?
Kinda silly/Kinda serious thought: If Hinami is orphaned, how do you think she’s going to react?
(Considering she IS a ghoul and we haven’t seen her power in action, we only saw her feeding)
