Uh… at least the snow looks pretty, right?

Glasslip 8 Img038I will admit that, initially, I was confused as hell about exactly why the episode was titled “Snow”. And to a certain extent, I do applaud Glasslip for being able to strike up a plot twist that genuinely does surprise me. Unfortunately, that comes at the rather heavy cost of rocking the boat even more – a boat that’s already been capsizing for quite a while, if you’ve been following the analogy I’ve been using for the past few episodes. It almost feels like they’ve decided to start smashing at its own hull with a large hammer, and water is pouring in at an even faster rate than before. And, like with the Titanic, there’s classical music accompanying its inevitable demise. Everything is just so confusing, and we’re getting more questions than answers – though with merely four episodes left, this is a bad, bad thing. All I’m getting is that these fragments of the “future” have taken a very dark and violent turn, but that’s about it. It would have been tolerable if there was some sort of continuity to all this, but that’s not what we’re getting at all, which makes it very difficult to understand – I’d argue that the dark crows from Yana-chan were some sort of “emotion”, but I have no idea what the shattered glass is supposed to mean. Maybe Touko really does die in a glassblowing accident. And now it’s not just small visions that Touko is seeing. Now the very scenery of her school – the world itself has changed to one that’s covered with snow, even though it’s supposed to be summer. And for some reason dark!Kakeru is forcibly kissing her. It’s true that Glasslip isn’t supposed to be a Fairplay mystery, but at the same time, is it supposed to be this messy, at this stage in the show?

Glasslip 8 Img019Merely thinking about the other characters is giving me an urge to sigh deeply. I do actually feel sorry for evil!Sacchan – she’s a bitch for using Hiro, but at least she’s a bitch I can understand. Sacchan and Boyfriend-san are reacting in ways that are thankfully normal – I’d even say that Sachi is showing a bit of regret, which Hiro doesn’t seem to be buying at all. It’s also confirmed that Sachi does actually like Touko, which explains why she did what she did. As for Yanagi, her artistically elegant fanservice seemed a bit excessive, and was definitely strange – was there a need to show various still shots of her undressing, showering and walking around the house naked? It might sound pretty odd for me to be complaining, but it’s not the sort of thing I’d expect P.A. Works to do. And of course, all of a sudden Yana-chan has turned into Yuki-kun. Or the other way around, from the perspective of the swimming lolis. Is becoming the 5:30 girl a way for her to get closer to Yuki-kun? I remember mentioning near the start of the show that I liked how transparent the characters were -that their feelings and emotions were clear to the audience- but this has all but disappeared lately.

I have a sinking feeling that Glasslip has a snowball’s chance in hell of salvaging itself, but I’ll stick this out to the bitter end, unlike with the onii-sama adventures, the other unfortunate show I’ve had the pleasure of encountering lately.

Look, it’s a chicken!
