Ah jeez, this episode was a sloppy mess. Just when I thought things were looking up, this happens. La Corda d’Oro Blue Sky once again made it very annoying to watch. There were many reasons why this episode ticked me off. The first and foremost was how rushed it was. There were way too many things going on when what I felt they should have done was focus this episode solely on Reiji and Kanade communicating and giving us the answers we have been waiting for. Like seriously, they didn’t get even half of the screen-time they deserved and they were in the most perfect and ideal position to do so! Instead it was actually everyone running around searching for Kanade! Clearly, this is a critical flaw of having way to many characters to juggle and writers feeling obliged to remind us that the others are still searching! NEWFLASH: WE DON’T CARE! As result their much needed and overdue discussion felt not only choppy (because of so many scene shifts), and it over dramatic to the extent I couldn’t take it seriously (no thanks to the stupid choice for the BGM), but had also felt like putting a golden opportunity to waste. Hell I wasn’t even looking for some sort of romantic thing going on (lets face it, there’s nothing of the sort in this show aside from the misleading crush on Ritsu whom Kanade had thought had given her the string all this time), I JUST WANTED THEM TO TALK IT ALL, THAT’S IT. An actual, discussion. Not just about the past, but more about each other.
So here’s the story of their complicated past: Seven years ago Kanade and Reiji were competiting in the same competiton. They were both playing the same piece, and before they both performed Reiji had helped repair Kanade’ broken string with a spare of his own. After they had competed through the first round, Kanade accidently ended up overhearing a conversation between the asshole headmaster and Reiji about how if Reiji won the competition, his wish would be granted. However, the asshole headmaster told him that there was no way he was going to win, and seeing that Kanade was listening walked over to her and pretty much scared her by saying she is and will be the only winner of this competition along the those in the future because of her remarkable abilities. They perform and then the results come in, and Kanade loses and Reiji wins. However Kanade already having been shaken by the douche-bag, she ended up making blunders and allowed Reiji to win. As result Reiji was furious of her pity treatment. (Well if we know one thing, that is no surprise given that she was THIS CLOSE to giving Shiseikan Academy a pity treatment after overhearing that they would be forced to disband if they lost). And so due to being so traumatized by the two, Kanade blocked out her memories as a reflect and Reiji ended up holding a grudge against her ever since and now he thanks her for making him this way because he is now unstoppable and only she can compete against him (dude you were THIS close to be being defeated by an unhand tatics a few episodes ago- oh the irony that Kanade was the one who snapped him out of it). And so, as conclusion to their conversation, Kanade vowed to him that she will do everything in her power to defeat him. But man this is going to get complicated because we all know that Reiji just got seriously hurt, so I wonder how this is going to impact his performance (IF, it will).
(See doesn’t this sound more interesting and can be taken a bit more seriously when the bloody music isn’t ringing in the background?)
Second, everything was over the top. Hido for some ridiculous reason thought that if he kidnapped Kanade, Reiji would let him back into the ensemble- like, HOW DOES THAT MAKE ANY SENSE AT ALL?! I jUST, I don’t even know anymore. This show is either trying too hard to be dramatic, or this is all supposed to be a stupid ass joke. OF COURSE, *DRAMA DRAMA* Hido gets mad when Reiji calls his music “White Noise” and takes a fit by attacking Reiji with a metal pole only for Kanade to jump in the way and then Reiji jumping in front of her to make sure she doesn’t get hurt- yadi yadi ya~ am I supposed to care? Because I really don’t give shits about this drama they are trying to create here. Ugh…It is really too bad that it ended up this way because I know, for a fact- this episode could have been SO MUCH BETTER, I KNOW THEY CAN DO IT, SO WHY COULDN’T THEY?! WHY?!
But in the end, it is safe to say it was the bloody soundtrack that truly ruined it for me. Who the hell is in charge of the soundtrack this time round? I never thought I would say this, but La Corda d’Oro: Blue Sky’s Original Soundtrack is driving me insane! Seriously! It drives me nuts how the pieces they have selected are so melodramatic or sounds like one I would hear in those stupid soap-operas I would watch after school because there was nothing else on! I am infuriated with the music! There is literally nothing inspiring or motivating or encouraging about it! It just doesn’t fit the scenes and circumstances! And it is so, so frustrating because like I have mention in probably several posts earlier, La Corda d’Oro Primo Passo is what made me fall in love in classical music in the first place, it awakened the interest in music in ways I wasn’t interested in before- and for it’s successor to not live up to that is incredibly disappointing.
Ugh my poor soul, I am going to need to cleanse it by re-watching La Corda d’Oro Primo Passo or listening to its QUALITY Original Soundtrack. Even while that show wasn’t perfect, at least the music was. You can count on me to rip this show apart when it comes to the overall review because I have so much rant about this. Lets just pray that the finale will be bearable.
