Cardfight!! Vanguard ep 164 (Legion Mate) [Season 4 First Impression]

Cardfight Vanguard returns with it’s fourth season, Legion Mate!

This is the fourth season of Vanguard, which I have been a fan of since the first season – and I regularly played the cardgame until about a year ago. The plot of the new season really caught my interest and being I’m a much bigger fan of Royal Paladins than Gold Paladins, well, viva la Vanguard!

 

Basically the season starts with a recap of last season- Aichi managing to win and save the world as he does, though this times the stakes were a bit higher than in past seasons. Yet rather than things going back to normal, everyone but Kai seems to have forgotten him. Kai even seems to be visited in his dreams by the visage of Blaster Blade.

But when he wakes up he finds not a single one of his friends remembers his best friend Aichi. Not the card shop owner who should remember Aichi as one of his most prominent customers and not even Emi – his own sister! – who suddenly claims she is an only child. I have to stop here and say Kai gives.. . .the best fucking expression I have ever seen in the universe over this. Ladies and gentlemen. Toshiki Kai’s surprised face.

 

Guys. This is . . . Kai’s surprised face. LOOK AT IT. LOOK AT HIS SHEER SURPRISE. I AM GOING TO USE THIS FOREVER. THIS IS SOME TROLL LEVEL OF SHIT.

Anyway, he’s hoping Masaki with her perfect memory will remember Aichi- but no such luck. She has no idea who Aichi is and Kai looks about ready to punch someone . . . or cry. Over his boyfriend. Because guys, this season of Cardfight is infected with…the gay.

I have a rule against yaoi most of the time, just because I resent people pairing up people with no chemistry. But. . . uhm. Kai’s kind of Aichi’s magical bond remember boyfriend and they’re kind of magical boyfriends so??? I’m going to make fun of him for the rest of the season because he is angsting over his missing boyfriend.

ANYWAY when Masaki’s hot bod isn’t enough to make him str- I mean when Masaki doesn’t remember, he has to take a cool down break. What this entails is Naoki seeing him, him going into a room, and then coming out with cards. Okay so most guys who sneak into private rooms after hot girls talk to them do other things but Toshiki Kai don’t play dat. Toshiki Kai get all up in dat cardgame griull. BLASTER BLADE APPEARS TO KAI AND HE GETS THE ROYAL PALADIN DECK YES. But what’s relevant about this is even Blaster Blade knows Kai’s boner for Aichi is the only hope. THE ONLY HOPE

Anyway Naoki who is probably second in line to Aichi’s number one fanclub has no idea what Vanguard is since Aichi is the one who showed it to him, so now Kai reasons he needs to teach him vanguard with his magical boyfriend’s deck. I DO NOT JUST LIKE SAYING THE PHRASE MAGICAL BOYFRIEND. They get into a match and talk about their love of this card game and it’s super cheesy but amusing because the viewer can relate “this is only a card game! but it makes me excited” that’s pretty much how I feel about this show. GET OUT OF MY HEAD SHOW. Kai proceeds to draw Blaster Blade and goes “yo this card makes me all happy an shit imma play it” and he is clearly talking about aichi so

There’s yaoi. There’s fan pairings. There’s fanon. And then there’s Kai’s love for Aichi which is unabashedly, nothing to be ashamed of, completely acceptable – gay. They gay. They doin it. He wanna be doin it. THIS SEASON WILL BE SOLVED WITH THE POWER OF “FRIENDSHIP” and by that I mean “LOVE”. Aichi’s going to be the villain and they’re gonna make out over vanguard cards to solve their problems.

Anyway he summons Blaster Blade and then Naoki cries over the cards HE REMEMBERS AICHI the end next episode Masaki will probably remember when she continues the match for Naoki.

Now maybe Masaki can use Oracle Think Tank again?!!! …Maybe? ….Perhaps??? Oracle. . . Think. . . maybe? No? I never get to see my babies in battle again? Damn you and your breakin my heart you bastard show! Anyway then the previews come on and we see. . . le gasp. . . le gasp. . .did I call it. . . SHADOWY AICHI ALERT

I’m excited for this season, and actually a lot for the cards. I’m psyched to see Royal Paladin return since I’m not the most keen on Gold Paladin and I’m hoping to see Emi’s bermuda deck some more, okay I JUST WANT TO SEE SOME PRETTY LADY DECKS OR HAVE MASAKI BE ALL “NAH GENESIS IM GOING BACK TO KOKO MY SWEET SWEET LOVER” cough. . . no I can’t decide if I’m going to mock this show or just freak out about cardgames. Deal with it! This season’s ace. I’m going to be covering it.
