Hyouka Episode 6: To Commit a Grave Sin

Houtarou is in class when he hears raised voices coming from another classroom, recognizing one of them as Eru’s. Later on in the clubroom when everyone talks about how Eru never gets angry, Houtarou recalls her outburst during class and accidentally triggers her curiosity, as she wonders why the teacher would have mistaken another class for hers.

Houtarou’s such an interesting guy – no matter how dull his actions may be, it was the happiest I’ve ever seen him look when Eru said to the rest of the Kotenbu that it takes too much energy to get angry. His angel has finally descended xD

Unfortunately that was short-lived, but he still sees helping out Eru with whatever curiosity problem she has next to be the shortest route out of doing anything energy-consuming. He brought this one on himself I’m afraid, with talking about Eru’s random outburst over getting angry. I dunno, I’m not sure I would mind getting my personal space continually invaded by a bunch of imaginary chibi Eru’s going “KININARIMASU~” Actually, I think KyoAni puts a lot of budget into Eru’s animation alone, not counting the rest of the show, which is pretty much scenery porn anyway. Always fun to watch her stretch across the table like that.

Let’s put it bluntly – nothing happened this episode. The mystery was pretty obvious from the get-go, and it felt like we were filling a hole between arcs, however that didn’t stop me from enjoying it. It’s a good show, but because of the meticulous detail that everything’s explained in once the mystery’s over, there’s not much to comment on other than speculate while we still don’t have the full story. I’m not sure I’ll be able to continue blogging something like this for the next few months, especially given how many other shows I’m covering at the moment. It depends, I’ll give it a think over this week and come to a decision by next episode. In the meantime, you can have this.

UPDATE: Confirming that I’ll be dropping Hyouka.
