Toriko Episode 2: Good? Bad? Not my type of show? I dunno!

And it has a special episode with One Piece, I was totally shocked to see that……

Yeah, I was surprised too, but I mean when you think about it it all makes sense. The whole show seems a lot like One Piece, and since it’s the same animation company it’s actually a smart move that Toei did with it, because all the One Piece fans are suddenly going to be interested in Toriko because it’s a lot like it.

I somewhat dislike a few things about the anime so far such as Komatsu’s voice actor, the overall color scheme used for Toriko (too much Son Goku in palette) though I do like parts of the manga. Perhaps like TWoGK they will be wandering around building up the world and characters before the first major arc will be introduced.

I like the first part of the manga (up until the conclusion of the said major arc) but the succeeding ones were a little bland for me so I stopped reading it for awhile. I’m currently checking it out again to see if things got interesting.

The way the food was portrayed early in the manga was pretty good so I hope that part at least transfers over as good or better in the anime.

You’re right about the capture levels starting low and the numbers will rise with the difficulty of capturing monsters (not necessarily always due to brute strength, some require delicate handling or some unique way to gather as there are also high capture level fruits and vegetables as well as harmless creatures).

And finally, yes, I hate the OP song as well.

I dislike the art too, Toriko’s character design is really weird :/.

As for capture levels, that’s good, because when I saw capture levels 5 and stuff they kept mentioning how “tough” it was to defeat them and such, so I really wasn’t sure if they were going to get much stronger creatures. I mean, a capture level 8 sounds pretty intense to me…

By the way, you really do like TWoGK a lot, don’t you? ;P I never would have related those 2 shows together, it really doesn’t seem like they go well together!

Can anyone tell me why toriko episode 2 is just another version of episode 1?

I’m not sure myself, but a lot of shows do that. My guess is that, since the first one was a special involving One Piece characters, this one was technically episode 1 and the producers were following the manga this time, which starts off in the same way of what happened in episode 1.
Also, a lot of shows want to seriously set the setting of the story before we start plunging into the plot, so these introductory episodes are actually pretty important. In some ways, the fact that only 2 episodes were dedicated to that isn’t so bad, I mean Naruto had like 20 episodes of that before they actually started the real plot…
